Not on the X250, but on the X308 I had a creaking noise like the old screen door on the TV show "The Waltons". I just assumed it was the clock spring mechanism so I went to a local Jaguar salvage and bought one even before I took it apart to investigate. Turns out it was instead the four springs that the airbag unit was mounted on. As the steering wheel was turned, the weight of the airbag would shift, causing the springs to move in their seats and make those creaking spring noises. Some tacky dielectric grease coating those tiny springs and seats cured the noise. I have never taken the XF's airbag off so I have no idea if its mounted similarly. Come to think of it, I don't remember if I even honked the horn.
