2009 XF electrical problems
Hi guys. I replaced my driver side headlight this weekend, because the connector that attaches to the bulb for my low-beam had apparently melted/exploded. Didn't really feel like paying the dealership $900, so I ordered a headlight online and swapped them myself.
The lights work great, but now after about 30 hours none of the controls on my driver door are working (windows and side-mirror adjusts) except the seat position memory. Tried replacing some of the fuses that seemed like they could be the culprits based on description in the owner's manual, but no luck. Windows can be opened from their respective doors aside from the driver window, but the rear-left window won't fully raise or lower without being held (should only need to be pressed once).
Any advice, other than just taking it to the dealership? Also, what's the likelihood that the headlight and window problems are related? Seems kinda odd to all be happening on the same side of the car...

That is weird. Problem is all that is controlled by the BCM. If the BCM doesn't get the voltage rating it is looking for it can cause all kinds of strange things. As jombov8 says, be sure your battery is up to snuff. Otherwise you may have a bad BCM or a wiring problem. Good luck!
I agree 100%. Headlight harnesses should not just ignite. I would start by looking to see what caused the headlight problem. Just swapping the headlight likely did not solve the problem and now it has manifested in another form. I would guess some frayed (sp?) wires somewhere, loose connector/pin, or some other electrical fault that caused the original headlight problem and has now expanded.

My passenger side headlight stopped working about 2 weeks ago, I brought my car in to the Jaguar dealership and was told that the wires overheated and melted the rubber cording, then shorted out when they touched wire to wire. They estimated total cost for the repair on that was $1000. Which I do not want to pay. Is there another (cheaper) fix for this? Has anyone had this issue already and had it repaired at a cheaper cost?
Looks like you're in the same boat I was in. I recommend ordering a replacement from eBay or someplace if you wanna save some cash. I got mine for around $300 IIRC, and I've seen listings in that neighborhood today. I'd suggest discussing a return policy with wherever you get it from though, in case it doesn't work for whatever reason.
Wish I could tell you what exactly the fix ended up being for the issue with my windows that started after replacing the headlight, but it's been a long while. I'll try to see if I have some dealership records at home from around that time period to see if ended up taking it to them.
