With what.

Formerly, the old fobs could be re-used only if they were gracefully divorced with SDD from the original car they were paired with. Can anyone imagine some ebay reseller bothering to do that or any other blanking method with fobs they buy wholesale from recyclers. OEM paperweights is exactly what they are selling. They don't care about JLR level of retardation when it comes to programming used replacements.

Now if there are new methods to re-use oem fobs, as the chinese have gotten good at hacking around these problems recently, by all means please share so we can all join the cheap keys party.

Don't know where you get that info from. Have you tried it yourself or just read about it on the Internet? I have used both SDD and GAP to program 2010 and 2013 Jag and RR. Used Jag fobs work with RR and vice-versa. No divorcing ever needed.

i was told the same thing about the modual
2013 xf 3.0. Dealer programed the keys but said i need a new modual for them to work properly.
on my drive home i tried the keys and they work fine. Dealer said it “ must have leaned or reset on its own” …. Yeah right I said.
been working for years now.

Just to follow up on my “trying to find and program XF key fob” escapades.....

Received the OBDSTAR100 from China....cost $109
Received original/refurbished Jaguar Key Fob that was “ready to program” ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/114702552560. )....cost $70

I followed the video linked above by bealzabubba and the program kept hanging up at the same spot, so I deviated slightly and chose “Smart Key” option and it worked.
So I can now lock the car as all the buttons on fob work as they should..from outside vehicle and the fob doesn’t have to be docked in order for the car to start (unlike the one I copied from).

I will report back on how programming the new non-Jaguar fob (cost $50) goes......

.....when it arrives tomorrow.

total cost of $235 versus $590-$995 for dealer to make 1-2 working fobs.

Great news, i too had to select smart key, the clone will work perfectly, mine came out smoothly.

I programmed the knock-off fob with the OBDSTAR H100 today.

Works fine, just like the one I programmed last week. I used last week's original re-programmed Jaguar fob to copy from.
After programming, the device confirmed there were now 3 programmed smart keys. I placed the two of three fobs in a metal box and checked each one individually.

All fobs worked as they should, other than the following....

(1)--Original damaged Jaguar fob still only works when docked in the starter control unit under steering wheel. Buttons still don't work.
(2)--It seems and sounds like both fobs I programmed are not locking into SCU when I push them in.

I guess I can check (2) by removing the fob battery and see if the car starts when fob is supposedly docked. If it doesn't start, then I'll know the fob isn't docked.
This might also be related to the issue I read someone post about where any key programmed by the OBDSTAR H100 will stop working if the fob battery goes dead, even if the fob is docked in the SCU.
May not be a bad idea to keep a spare CR2032 battery in car, just in case.

Luckily I still have one original cut key blade, so any decent locksmith should be able to cut two more spare key blades.

If anyone has any questions on the above procedure, ask away and I'll try to answer.

Great.
I really haven't tried docking the new key.
But i did get a dead battery in the new programmed clone fob, had it in a drawer for a year, i changed the battery and it works fine, it didn't loose the programming.

From what I read, you need to program the new keys with SSD, for the docking to work.

I always carry a pack of those batteries in the glove box.

There is a transponder chip embedded in the key fob.
This chip is not connected in any way to the battery in the fob.
The car is constantly sending out a signal looking for this chip and if the two frequencies/ signals/ numbers match up, induces a signal from the chip which the car recognises, which in turn, allows you to start the car
In short, the battery in the fob is basically for unlocking/ locking doors, etc.

I've just purchased a 2008 x250 2.7d. Nice low mileage as well, 49000 miles, service history to 45000
It only has one pretty dire looking fob. The buttons don't work at all but putting in the slot I can start the car, just about, but that's a different thread......
I've ordered a new case for it from Amazon because it'll get here tomorrow.
I changed the battery after looking through these threads but it still doesn't appear to be working so I'm looking for replacement fobs, two of really.
Can the 2008-2012 fobs from other XF's be reprogrammed using SDD?
