Default 2009 xf na p0171

Back from a long hiatus.

I have a 2009 XF NA and recently just purchased a OBD II reader which I leave plugged in to monitor the car.

I have received the code P0171 about 4 times over the last month or so. It usually will only come on while on the highway after about 30 minutes or longer. When it comes on I do not notice any change in the vehicle performance.

I have heard this is a trouble with the SC but anyone have a clue on a NA?

It is starting to concern me and really just thinking I should get a new one

Also today the car was completely dead which happens about once a year and I believe is separate from the code. I typically will drive my car less than a km to work and back and don't drive a lot of long distances so believe the drain on the battery is greater than the charge it would get from the drive.

Anyone have any idea on what to do about the P0171? Cost to repair? Will it visit the shop 100 times before they even figure out what it is?

Thanks for the help!

Aaron

9 times out of 10, we just change the fuel filter and clean the MAF sensor. It is a lean fuel mixture code. And being that you are getting it intermittently, it probably means that it is time to change the fuel filter.

Earlier this winter (around October) I was getting a bunch of misfires as well which I am attributing to possibly the O2 sensors as well and the lean bank codes. Do you think that could be the case or you still think it could be just from fuel filter?

In October the car would start, happened about 2 or 3 times, in extreme cold sitting outside where the car would start and when the idle slowed down it would then almost stall out before it would rev up and then settle down to around 1000 RPM where it sits typically. It only happened in extreme cold and then I started getting the lean bank codes in December(?) and have had about 3 of those since. The lean codes will typically trip while I have cruise set on the highway.

Anyway I am feeling like I need to do something because I think I have put it off long enough. I like the idea of swapping the fuel filter and maybe O2's to start.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the support!

Aaron

Default Might be

Might be your 02 sensors or a leak some where, when a had this code I had an air leak in the vacum pipe that enter the manifold change the pipe and it was gone
