Hi All,
I have bought a used transmission with 90,000 miles, to replace my faulty 136,000 mile trans.
I was wondering, what I may need to replace on the transmission or if I should just throw the new used trans up in there? As I plan on selling the car after it is fixed due to the hole it has already burned in my pocket.
I just want to make sure that this replacement is installed and works. I have the old trans out already. Thanks
Hmmm, maaaaybe the O-rings for the cooler lines and some fluid. Other than that there aren't any bolts that need to be replaced or gaskets.
However - you may need to program the TCM to your car, not sure if there will be any warnings due to mismatch of software/VIN info, maybe if anyone else here who has done a swap like this might have more info on that...
No there is no programming required. It is a drop in. You will have to follow the procedure to reset the parking brake because you will have to release it when you remove the old transmission. But to do the change correctly you should blow out all the old transmission fluid so you don't contaminate the new trans and torque convertor. There is a spacer block, small tubes, trans filter and harness sleeve that should be replaced if you want to do it correctly. There are many write ups of how to do all of this including the correct way to fill the trans with new fluid as well as achieving the correct fluid level. It is really not that difficult. It is just messy and time consuming. I put my trans in and only took about an hour to do so. PM me if you have any further questions.
Thanks I've read the book and viewed all the DIY tutorials. Thanks again for the reminder to blow out the old fluid. I'm going to take my chances and just replace the pan/filter.
