Default 2009 XF-SC Fuel Guage Shows Empty

Hello,
This is my first post. I tried to do a search but, did not find any input. Was driving my XF this morning - knowing I had about 3/4 take of gas. About half way through my commute I noticed the "Low Fuel" indicator light up on the dash and no bars were show on the gas guage indicator. Eventhough I knew I had about 3/4's of a full tank. I pulled in a gas station and filled up. Upon start up it showed a full tank (all bars lit up). Thought everything was OK. 1/4 mile down the road. Warning light "Low Fuel" is back on no bars for gas. Runs and drives fine. Let car sit for an hour or so. Fired it back up - same error - Low Fuel and no bars showing for fuel level.
Thinking it is either the sensor in the tank or electronics in the dash.

Anyone experience this?
Cost to repair?
Best place to take it in Plano / Dallas to repair? Out of warranty by 4 months.

I know yours is a 09, but never know. Maybe fuel leaking out?

Select 2010-2012 Jaguar XF models recalled over fuel leak fears

I've had this happen about 4 times in the last month or two. It happens while driving and then goes back to normal a few minutes later. My service advisor never heard of it being an issue, so we're monitoring it.

Does the on-board computer show miles to empty? Not a fix but maybe a solution if car is out of warranty.

No, the fuel bar completely goes away and miles to empty turns to --. It's really weird, but I'm still in warranty, so I'll be sure to relay any fix whenever I get around to addressing it.

Yep, you hit it on the head.
Long drive on Monday - So, I will see if it goes back to normal. Mean time, the "trip" works so, I'll watch it and fill up every 250 miles...
Thinking it is the "sending unit". Heard ranges to fix are $500 to $1,800 at the dealership.

I'm 99% positive it's the sending unit. The same thing happened to me with my S-Type a couple of years ago. The needle would
fluctuate between 3/8 and 3/4 even though the tank was nearly full. At the time, I was told it would have been $800-900 to fix

In the X Type the rear subframe with the rwd part of the drivetrain had to be dropped out and the tank removed to replace the sender because no access through the trunk floor. Hope the XF has an access port but from those costs probably the same issue.

Jaguar fuel senders are known weak points.

Jlocc your service advisor is an ***. I've got a 2010 XFR and this is a KNOWN issue. My service advisor is taking care of this under warranty. Requires them to drop the fuel tank since they have to replace the entire assembly.

Default Thank you

Thanks for all the input.
I'm have an inside guy at the Jag dealership. We'll see if he comes through - regarding them covering it under warranty.

So, is it time to by an extended warranty? I am really enjoying this car and plan on owning it for at least another 5+ years or so....
What warranty company is recommended.
Cheers.

Do you have a bulletin # or the exact name/cause of the issue by any chance?

Sounds like a connector may be loose. I still think it's the tank sender unit failing.

Default Connecter Loose / Location?

Any thoughts as to where I could look to see if a connection is loose? Or, would that be inside the gas tank? Thank you for everyone's input.
