Default 2010 XFR Won't Lock Doors?

Just got back from a 7 month overseas military deployment. Got the battery charged and car running great. However, I noted that I didn't hear the customary lock when I'd push the button on the handle after exiting the car.

Turns out I can't get the car to lock! The car won't lock using the keyfob or with any of the door handle buttons. All the other buttons; unlock, trunk, and light; work fine. If I'm sitting in the car with all the doors shut, I can get the doors to lock using the button on the center console. However, when I open a door to get out, all doors unlock and the center console button won't work with a door open. I thought maybe it thought a keyfob was still inside the car, but if I leave the keyfob ten feet away, get in the car and shut the door, and try to start it I get a message saying no keyfob present... so I don't think that's it.

I live in an urban neighborhood, and while the car will alarm if a door opens without the keyfob, that's not super satisfying for me. Any ideas?

Cheers, Will

do you get any horn beeping from the car when you try to lock the door (from either the key or the door button)

There was a thread about this not long ago. I think the issue was a bad locking mechanism. But not positive (and I'm on the mobile app) so try to search.

Tried a search but got nothing...

My car has never beeped. That part was grounded out when I bought it, and I prefer it not to beep anyways so never fixed it.

Check the trunk wiring for chafing.

the cars generally dont beep....UNLESS there is something wrong. so for example if you tried to lock the car with the door open, the car would beep to let you know something is wrong.

Not quite. Most XFs have a setting so that they beep once when you double lock the car, and nothing is wrong, the beep is just to confirm that the car is double locked. However, as you almost say, if the car beeps twice ("double beep") then something is not right, it's telling you that something isn't shut properly. Either that or one or more of the door locking actuators isn't working properly, I get this intermittently on my XFR.

That's what I attempted to describe

SOLVED

My father said his Caddie has this issue if it sits for several months... basically the lock actuators get stiff and need some exercise.

The passenger side door lock would stick out a little if you tried to lock it. So I sat in the car and open and closed it about two dozen times. Now the doors lock and unlock like normal when using the key.

And just to be clear, my car's beeping is totally nonfunctional. No lock beeps, no unlock beeps, no protest beeps. Alarm works fine. I'm okay with that.

I believe the beeps come from a separate horn, not the main horn, so my guess is that horn and/or switch and/or relay has packed it in. As you say, not a problem, no beeping is a good thing to some people. Whenever I parked the XFR in the girlfriend's driveway and locked the car it beeped either once or twice and she hated it and implored me to kill the beep, but I explained "no can do", especially not the double beep which signified a locking error. On the F-Type I found a menu option to turn off the double locking single beep and the GF is now a happy bunny!

Where'd you spray the lubricant? Unless I take off the door card, I don't see anything I could get to...
