I've not experienced this before, but there's enough info there to take a "guess" based on how evaporative emissions systems generally work. It basically vents the gas fumes in the tank to the engine where they can be burned rather than let escape to the atmosphere as raw hydrocarbons. I've not taken an XF gas tank out or apart, but generally there's a control valve at or near the top of the tank somewhere with a tube running forward to the engine bay. I think one of the things its supposed to do is prevent liquid gas from flowing through the vapor system. What it sounds like is happening is that its getting liquid gasoline in that evap tube every time you fill up. When you start the car, it quickly builds manifold vacuum, which sucks that slug of gasoline into the manifold, upsetting the air/fuel ratio just enough to kill it once. Then you restart it and its ok again until the next time you fill up and get more liquid gas in that vapor tube. Sounds like the computer is trying to tell you that the there's an evap system valve compromised somewhere. Have you tried filling the tank to say 1/2 tank or 3/4 tank? Does it happen when you fill the tank to somewhere below full?

The EVAP system and the purge system are two separate systems. The EVAP system catches vapors from tank into EVAP canister and stores until they are either allowed to purge through the purge valve or may vent out to air. I would get the EVAP system looked at and repaired first. It can easily cause many issues. Fuel will never get to engine through purge system unless you way overfill tank after the station pump clicks and you keep filling.
Gentleman thank you so much for the response and I totally agree with you guys this has been baffling me for a quite long time I really want to get this fixed I'm fearful that it might damage my fuel pump in the future
so I did do a smoke test in the fuel tank canister and they could not find a leak now they did stay to change out my gas cap which I did with an oem and still I have the same issue when I fill up I changed it again just to see if it did anything different with another OEM cap still same era
now I did a little research on other vehicles and I found that there's a purge valve that might be stuck open and it might be causing this situation I'm just hoping if anybody experienced this that they can give me some of their ideas on how they fixed it
Maybe unrelated but the XF does have a known issue regarding inability to completely fill the tank (shuts off the gas pump prematurely). Air gets trapped in the neck I think. The dealer fix was to replace parts with the same filler neck type. Seldom worked.
There was also a recall for 2010-2012 models to replace a filler neck that could crack and leak fuel (letting in air as well).
Possible you have some "airlock" issue that cures itself once you try to start it twice? Try filling the tank very slowly by hand and see if that helps.
Thanks bro for response- so thats what I'm actually doing - filling up slow works the cars starts with out shutting off - but it does kinda hesitates - but after pulling off works fine
But still have issues and the state im in which is new jersey this wont pass inspection
I changed the fuel charcoal canister on my 2008 xk for a similar problem couldn't fill at regular speed and would shut off first time start replaced with used one from ebay no problem after
2012 Jaguar XF profolio- everytime i get gas and when I crank it shuts off - I have to do it twice to start it -
But after I start it twice no more issues - but it happens again after I get gas again- no matter if I'm topping off or filling up
I used different gas like shall and Sunoco same issue
And yes I only use super- i haven't tried regular-
I did a little research they said it might be the gas cap so I changed it actually changed it twice oem Jaguar part
I did receive an Amber Alert on the cluster is said if a loose gas cap but after replacing it still have the error
I scanned the car and it came up evap leak
just want to see if anybody had an issue similar to this the car is running fine I don't see any major issues any gas lost
but I'm afraid that one day after getting gas it might not start
if anybody can help with any type of resource or any type of assistance I was truly appreciated
I’m having the say problem but mine is a ruffle idle like it wants to stall out every time I get gas. Everything I looked up points to the purge valve solenoid. Just YouTube or google bad purge valve solenoid systems. I seen the part on eBay for $130 brand new
