Default 2013 XF USB Format

I've formatted my USB drive to FAT32 multiple times and copied music several different ways yet my stereo will not play the songs. I can see all the folders and browse them but can't play. What am I doing wrong?

Itnate3, part of it depends on the music format that you are attempting to play. If you are trying to play say MP3's, then that should play no problem. If you are trying to play your i-Tunes library, then you might have trouble because of how Apple has copyrighted some of their music. Without knowing the format version of each song, it is hard to say what is going on. If you can, convert everything over to MP3 format and that should give you the best chance of playing everything you want.

Thanks for the reply. That's the crazy thing, all the files are MP3 and the memory stick plays on all of my other cars. I just can't crack this and I've read a ton of threads on this too.

Itnate, are you running something like 320K format or something like that. I would think that the car can handle up to 256K no problem. The 320K might be a different story. might be worth a try by converting a few songs and going from there.

The other thing that you may want to consider is how they are stored on the USB. If you have say 5,000 songs in 1 folder, that may be too many for the radio and if you take the same songs but organize them into say 100 smaller folders (using say the artists name), this will break it down to a size that the radio can handle. Sometimes there are some funky limitations that you need to figure out what is causing a problem.

Ok thanks...I think my folder sizes are just fine but maybe because my song format is 320K it's causing the problem.

Also make sure you do NOT have "variable bit rate" selected when you convert to MP3

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X250 forum. We like to keep the General forum free of model specific questions.

I downloaded most of the albums from Amazon and most are around 328...is that my problem? Should I convert them to 192?

I see someone already answered this above. I'll try to convert.

That should not be your problem. I have the ACM in my 2005 S Type and the upper limit is 320K. I think you problem is something else. On the older cars there was a 4GB USB stick limit.

On the XF is there an upper limit on the size of the attached USB device?

I had some MP3 songs on my USB stick that wouldn't play. I used a free sound file converter and converted them from MP3 to MP3. Fixed the problem.

What do you mean by "mp3 to mp3"?

In the converter software you choose what format you want it to convert the file to. I just select the files I want to convert(MP3s) and select what format to convert them to. I select MP3 and it goes through the conversion process. When finished they play from my USB drive just fine.
