Default 275 40 r18 on stock wheels

I decided to go this route instead of spacers. These are bf goodrich tires and the are 1.5" wider than the 245 continental tires..

Interesting. At one point I put my XJL's 19" 275 rears on the XFs. Of course that raised the car about 1/4" but, I really loved the handling.

Did you put 275's on the front AND the rear wheels? Which tire model? How does the handling feel and does it appear that the full width of the tire thread touches the road surface? Generally the stock wheels are considered too narrow for 275s.

I'd love to see a close-up picture of the tire, mostly directly from the front or rear to see how the tire sidewalls look on the stock wheel.

they are g force sport comp 2. They are the same height. These are 275 40 and the stock are 245 45. It does recommend a 9" rim and these are 8.5. very little bulge and the handle fine. I kept the front 245.

Thanks. I think I will make the same change, keep the 245s up front and go with the 275s at the rear. Right now I have spacers both front and rear to move the tires out. Like you said, this will eliminate the need for the spacers at the back.

To each their own, but running 275 on a 8.5 inch is too much tire for rim size. Apart from maybe the looks, you are not getting much performance benefits from that size tire.

I researched the crap out of this move....forum after forum..I like the look and I track this car seldom...I have pushed it pretty good since the switch and can't tell any difference..on one of the forums a guy tracked his car all the time and had these on 8" rims..yes I would like to score a set of varuna wheels with 295 on the back but this ain't bad....just thought I would share my experience..thanks

Bf goodrich in general are a slightly wider tire for the size. Not all brands are measured the same .

You may be correct but, I really liked the looks and handling of 275s on my XF when I switched the tires from my XJL. Slightly pinching the tire into an 8.5" wheel may "pull up" the tire's edges but, that can be compensated-for by lowering the tire pressures by about 3 psi from 35 to 32.

I've been contemplating the very same tire size for a while but, since Customgtrs had taken the lead and it appears to look and work well, I'll do the same.
