I have a 2013 Jaguar XF with a 3.0L V6 engine, and I'm experiencing an issue with the A/C system. When I turn on the A/C, everything appears to be functioning, but it's not cooling. The problem seems to be that the radiator/condenser fan is not switching to high speed to cool the condenser.
When I'm driving at higher speeds and airflow cools the condenser naturally, the A/C starts working and cools properly.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Replaced the compressor, condenser, and fan
Recharged the system multiple times
Verified that the ambient temperature sensor is working correctly (shows the correct temperature on the dashboard)
Checked all fuses in the fuse box — all are functional
Interestingly, when I disconnect the coolant temperature sensor, the engine goes into emergency mode, the fan runs at maximum speed, and the A/C works perfectly.
Also, there are no diagnostic trouble codes present.
Do you have any suggestions on what could be causing the issue?
While not closely related at all, my X-Type does something very similar, but I have deduced that it is actually a problem with the blend door. It is very sluggish and sometimes even moves back and forth when it isn't supposed to, but only when I first start driving. After a little bit of driving it seems to straighten out. It is way too much work to get into the dash to fix it for now. If it ever stops working completely before I inevitably sell it or give it to one of my kids, I'll dig in. Good luck. The only thing worse than AC not working is AC that should be working but blowing hot or warm air!

My recollection is that this is a common thing and it's a hi/low valve. My Jag dealer fixed it and I don't think it was too expensive...
Thanks for the reply. Everything is working except it's not blowing cold air. I’m going to replace the high/low valve, even though I already replaced the compressor (from eBay), and see if that fixes the problem.
Hi, there is no overheating. The engine fan works fine—when the engine needs to cool down, the fan runs at high speed. Otherwise, it stays at low speed. Actually, I ordered a brand new fan and installed it, but there was no difference.
Yes but he already changed the compressor which contains the DPS valve?
Do you think he needs to change it again?
I went thru this in massive detail and be careful as I found the chart from the above TSB contains errors. Jaguar had a big problem getting this one right as you can see the TSB is now at version 6! Note this is NOT the latest version as I have a V7 version which I have attached.
Here is my multi page thread with the description and solution of the problem. Many pictures showing what I ran into on my car which is different than yours. 2014 XJR. But that should not matter in this area the cars are all the same.
The best tip to check if the DPS is the problem is this.
With the car cold from sitting all night. Open the hood and start the car with the AC on. The engine fan needs to start immediately on low speed. This can be checked using your hand to feel for air flow or looking to see the fan blades turning. It's not much but the fan must be turning.
After all the work I went thru my current suggestion is to forget the DPS and just replace the compressor as the OP has done.
But after all he has replaced I am not sure what to try next?
kpoghosyan without any pressure readings it will be difficult if not impossible to figure out what's going on.
Any chance you can post some hi and lo side readings?
