Default Advice Needed: 2010 XF Supercharged vs. 2011 Premium

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and new to Jaguar society. (never owned Jag before)

I'm in a market to purchase low mileage Jag XF, and found a few 2011 Premiums.
As I was getting close to pull the trigger on the purchase, I found a '10 Supercharged one.

'10 has about 10k more miles but price is almost same as '11 Premium. (actually, it's couple of thousand cheaper, even..)

Anyone driven both and tell me what would be a better move?

Difference I know now..
'11 will have platinum coverage, so oil change/brakes/wipers are covered, and it has 5 year warranty instead of 4.
'10 will have less warranty but since it's supercharged, it would have 85 more hp, and little worse mpg.

What I don't know is,
Is the power difference between these 2 are that much noticable?
What kind of extra options would Supercharged have vs. '11 Premium?
How bad (?) is mpg on supercharged?
Any issue with supercharged engine vs. N/A, in a long term?

and,,, what would you buy, if you were I?

Thank you in advance for your advices.

Biggest difference will be the 2011 has the brand new 5.0 direct injection engine. For my money I'd buy the newer car. The real world performance will be very similar. the SC uses the tried and true 4.2 V8 which has been in production for about 20 years. It is bulletproof even when supercharged. However, the newer engine is a gem. With direct injection it is fuel efficient and powerful.

I have not driven the supercharged engines. I drove a new XJ with the 5.0 engine and it is superb.

I thought '10 XF SC was using 5.0 as base (same engine as in the '10 Premium, '11 Base and Premium) and supercharged it to make 470 hp, not 420 hp of '09 XF SC's power..
I gotta go back to studying again..
Thanks for the advice!

-- I mean,, I gotta search more information on XF engines.. I thought '09 was all 4.2, including SC. '10 was 4.2 in Base (Luxury?), and 5.0 in Premium / SC. '11 was all 5.0.
My information maybe wrong... Back to internet search...

2010 XF SC has 470hp 5.0L motor. You better notice 85 more hp. Drive both of them. It's up to you. If it were me I'd get the supercharged version. I don't know what the premium has for options but the supercharged version has every option except for adaptive cruise control (most reviews say not to get that anyway).

The 2011 warranty would be nice though.... Maybe extend the warranty on the 2010 if you are worried about it though.

My 09 SC (4.2L) gets 18-19mpg with mostly highway aggressive driving. I think I hit 22-24 on a long distance highway cruise. I've driven a few 5.0L's but none have been the SC version unfortunately. Supposedly the 5.0L is a bit better on gas mileage based on ratings.

Me confused. The base 2010 used the 4.2. All others used the 5.0. Supercharged 5.0 will be noticably more powerful than the naturally aspirated. I have a recollection that Canada did not get that model. The XFR came out about that time also.

Welcome aboard!

You don't have to get back to studying. As matter of fact, you are very well informed, because everything in your post is accurate.

As far as the cars go, i would go with the 2011. One year newer, extra year of warranty, free maintenance, and naturally aspirated engine.

Good luck with the purchase and don't forget to post pics.

I would suggest looking into the differences in suspension and rear differntial. To my knowledge the supercharged 2011's have a limited slip rear differential, and a sophisticated sport suspension. If the 2010's (SC) are similiar than the two cars will handle very differently. Depending on what you are looking for this could be significant.

Guys, the 2010 SC has the same 5L supercharged engine as the XFR. It also has the same diff, electronics etc and suspension. Its the best bargain out there in my opinion as it also has all the upscale interior including premium headliner and stitching etc. Only thing missing is the more aggressive seats of the XFR. I brought one to Canada because they didn't sell it here in 2010.

Thanks for all the great advices and information.
I think I'll pick one up by the end of next week. (going out of town so I have to put a deposit on a car and pick it up when I come back)
Looking forward to the jaguar experience!

The power differences between the two are drastic even if it is only 85 HP. Don't believe me, drive them for yourself and your ear
To ear grin will tell you the same. However the difference between the S/C and the XFR ( performance-wise) are very minor, but that wasn't your question. .

Default They are both Great! Had both too.

Had a Black with Barley 2010 XF Premium Lux. Drove it !!K until this December and traded it for a 2011 XF SC. It was a beautiful car, the 385 HP 5.0 liter is super fast and could get me about 27 MPG at 75 MPH interstate highway cruising.

Got an opportunity to trade for an 2011 XF SC Quartz with Black. The deal was too good to pass up. The SC I acquired was custom built with the XFR seats and has piano black interior. Its hyper fast! I just drove it from Milwaukee to Orlando (1250 miles) in less than 18 hours. I averaged 22.4 MPG and in highway cruising about 24 MPG or about 2 MPG less.

However this SC flays like a jet. I have had Corvette's and other cars, but nothing handles and rides like this at speed expect my ZX14 Ninja but I couldn't sit on that for 18 hours. They are both great. Pick the color you like and the most you can reasonably afford. Good luck. You will not be disappointed.
