Angry Aftermarket Cats for 2009 XF Supercharged 4.2

I was recently informed by my trusted mechanic that I need not one, but two new catalytic converters. No problem, right? Wrong. They are at least $1600.00 each, and to make matters worse, they are discontinued and no one has stock of them, ANYWHERE! So, I'm posting this to see if anyone know of an aftermarket CA emission legal aftermarket option. I can't drive the car for the most part now, because I've now started getting transmission errors because of the the CATS. Thanks in advance for responses.

Yes they are available and yes they are at least $1500 a piece! Plus there are two different emissions calibrations for your car and you will need that also.
Either 9JCXV04.2DSK or 9JCXV04.2DNK
So yes you have an expensive mess unfortunately. Too bad where you live I guess?

I like Magnaflow. Don't know your skill level but does not sound like you can do any work? If it was mine I would get a pair of universal CA. compliant cats and weld them in place of the stock units. Magnaflow carries both and it would be worth a phone call to check out the details. I am sure there are other brands as well?
Here is your listing and they don't have prices on everything
Replacement Cats

But I don't think your going to get off cheap on this one. Can't really suggest used either but I am sure it's been done.

You should get a second opinion, what symptoms and codes were you seeing before the transmission. If the car was ran rich and misfiring for too long then yeah that would do it, and bad coils can even cause shifting problems on these cars.

If all else fails search youtube for 'How to Clean Your Car's Catalytic Converter using Lacquer Thinner' and also soap detergent flush if that doesn't do it. Those are hail marys that don't work for every case but you would have nothing to lose at that point.

For both to fail there pretty much has to be something to fix - else the new ones will likely fail as well!

Buy used? I got magnaflow CRAB compliant converters after mine were stolen. Passes emmissions aslong installed by a certified mechainc. CA might be a bit more severe

Good Morning Hojones716!

I have a customer with the same problem and he tried to get an exemption from the state of Georgia emissions but they were able to find a magnaflow catalytic converter and declined his exemption. You can always try a product called Cataclean. It's sort of a hit or miss but if you use it before trying to pass emissions, you may make it another year before having to bite the bullet and spend a fortune on the cats. We've had a few success stories with customers using cataclean to get by long enough to pass emissions. Just a thought to try first!
