Default Air Direction / Blower Issue

Hi everyone,

After 3 and a bit years of faultless service my XF has decided to throw me a little curve ball just as its about to be put up for sale. (Trying to get onto the housing market so all luxury items must go)

The blower is working but its very weak on the two outer vents and is not working at all from the central ones. If directed to cabin it mainly comes from the footwell, it does redirect to screen however. The temperature still adjusts as it should, air con still functional also.
I have read another thread on here regarding a PTC heater causing this kind of issue, just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this.

Lawrence

Mine is doing this also and my reading suggests that it is the 'face / screen distribution stepper motor'. I contorted myself into the footwell and it does not move. I have a new one ready to install when I replace the leaking a/c evaporator.

That's very helpful, gives me a head start. Hope that all goes ok your side. Just read also that the blower motor can be dissembled and cleaned up, this would also account for the ticking sound on start up that comes from the footwell.

It's not the aux heater (wrong symptoms), it's something else.

Have a look at my thread on removing the heater unit, I found today that there was a lever in the vent mechanism not properly fitted that has been causing this problem on my car, probably not a faulty stepper motor as suspected. Not sure if it could occur spontaneously, I suspect mine is the result of previous shoddy work when the dash top was replaced.

Here's a video about the auxillary heater fault which effects the limbus circuit, causing things not to work correctly.
