Default Any Way to Increase the Gas Mileage

I swear i can actually see the fuel level move down as i'm driving.

Is there any way to increase the gas mileage?

City fuel economy is not great but highway fuel economy is superior to most cars with similar performance.

If supercharged then, obviously, do not use boost if possible. If non supercharged then get up to speed asap and then cruise with low throttle opening.

Drive in Winter Mode. Or take the bus to work.

My mileage increased around 2-3 mpg in the city after installing the K&N Filters in my 2010 XF.

The two air filters with K&N filters. Here's the manufacturer's link:

Why does winter mode improve your mileage?

On a related note, we recently got only 23 MPG on a highway trip to RI and back. Last summer, we got close to 27 MPG on a trip to Vermont and back under similar traffic, speed and load conditions (but much warmer temps). Does cold weather reduce gas mileage for some reason?

Default Winter mode

Starts you off in 2nd gear, changes up and down early. Generally it tries to be gentle on the gas.

Too many variables to know why you got better gas consumption last year.

Hmm not to troll or anything. Drive slower, putt around town and coast when going downhill, try to avoid stop and go traffic if you can. I get around 27ish on the highway at 4200ft altitude, but then again I get about 14mpg when I press the little button of badass, and unleash the XFR. So it really comes down to the driver.

Put a block of wood underneath the gas pedal so you can't push it down quite so far

Stop burying the gas when you take off...Seriously it is a function of the type of car and the way it is driven (I use the paddles alot). Mine gets about 15 in the city and almost 28 on the highway. Yes I have a heavy foot.

Make sure that your tires are properly inflated, I keep mine at 35 all around. I have not noticed any appreciable increase in mileage, but I do like the way it feels.

You have a powerful and very quick car....they were'nt really designed with mpg in mind.
Having said that I assume that you've checked / donr the following.

Tyres at correct pressure?
Is the boot ( trunk ) empty of ALL items that you don't really need to be in there or are you carrying 2 sets of golf clubs + 100lbs??
Is the air filter clean? If not possibly replace
MAF sensor.....check this too.
DONT bury your foot in the carpet ALL the time.
DO think about driving, try to avoid stop start, brake as little as safely possible and coast to stop signs and traffic lights etc.
There is the school of thought that constant A/C use and or cruise control can affect mpg by around 5pmg each.
Driving with the window down slightly causes more drag and accounts for approx a 5% drop.

If you're city driving all the time you're gonna find it hard to get your mpg up much I'd guess. Nothing like a nice cruise along the highway for a good few miles at a reasonable pace to get your average mpg up
