Default Autoblog does a nice review of the XF Supercharged

The post says the XFS' engine is a detuned version of the XFR's. Just wondering if anyone knows what would be required to "retune" it?

Sorry can't answer your question about "tuning" the SC edition. My dealer led me to believe there are suspension differences between the two in addition to the 40hp gain. Can anyone share the mechanical differences? I do however think the review was very much "On the Mark" with all the comments/criticisms made. It truly is a tough decision to choose between the SC and the XFR. Is it worth the $12,000 usd extra? (Only to the one writing the check. IMHO)

I have the exact same question. Even if we can afford a car of this level, $12k is nothing to sneeze at. The Autoblog article makes one really consider the "sleeper" aspect of the SC and whether small tuning efforts can get you 80% of the performance for only 20% of the added costs?

The SuperCharged is definitely a great option, especially at nearly the same cost as the S Type R.

The only way to really tell is to drive and compare...but there is definitely something to be said of the 'specialness' of the R's...

Supercharged engine was the old 4.2 V8. XFR is the new 5.0 supercharged. There is also a normally aspirated 5.0 version of this engine going into the Premium Luxury XF. In Canada the 4.2 is still offered as a 2010 Luxury. We get only the naturally aspirated 5.0 V8 in the Premium luxury and the top flight 510 hp supercharged engine in the XFR.

Maybe in the US Jaguar is looking to capture the luxury performance market by sticking a smoother supercharged engine into a softer chassis without the other handling items.

2010 XF SC = 470 hp w/ 424 lbft @2500-5500 rpm delivered from the new 5.0 v8.
2010 XFR = 510 hp w/ 461 lbft @2500-5500 rpm also from the new 5.0
I was at the dealer again this eve and he states the suspension is tuned differently in R version.
I will agree with you 390, there is something very special about the exclusivity one would have by owning the R.
I am going to really research the two cars, then do back to back at length test drives then try to make a comprehensive decision as to is it worth the extra $$.

Rover, I've yet to drive the XFR (dealer already sold first shipment) but I drove the new XKR and the engine and feedback of that car is amazing (compared to the 420HP version)...

The exhaust note under WOT is intoxicating...I've been looking at used Vantages but the new XKR is definitely near the top of the list...

Looking forward to hearing your report back. Where I live, NorCal, they aren't letting you test drive a XFR unless you're driving it home. A bit unfortunate, similar to what they did back in the day when I bought my SMG equipped E46 M3.

My dealer and I have a long term business relationship. I have bought 2 Defenders, 1 Range Rover, 1 Discovery, 1 LR3, 1 Saab 95 Areo, 1 Jaguar XJ8L. He's a pretty good guy and he pretty much let's me drive anything off the lot I want for a couple days. So as soon as I get back home next week a test drive of the XFR will be in order. When he gave me the keys to the 2010 XF SC a couple weeks ago, the car really made an impression on me. Initially I didn't care for the body style at all. Then after a couple days driving the car I "think" I liked it "better" than the XK. And it sure was a blast to pull next to the "Nopi Tuner's" and let the sleeper sedan serve up a heapin' plate of humiliation. That's what's so cool about the SC, No big scoops in the grill, No big air intakes cut in the bonnet, just a beast under the hood and a body of "Stealth" design. Have yet to sport the XKR so I can't comment on that one, but I have always been a sedan kind'a guy.

I wonder if you can save the $$$, buy the S version and wait for some aftermarket tuner to reverse engineer the ECU chip to turn your S into an R?

I looked at the XF SC prior to purchasing my R. To me hands down the R looks alot nicer (front end, rear end, side skirts, hood with vents, nice wheels)and the 510 hp doesnt hurt. I have just over 5000km on my XFR and love every minute im in it. (well worth the extra cash)

Best of luck

I am going to try and do a test drive of the R today. Sitting side by side, the R does have a better profile appeal from all angles. (JMO)

I thought a lot about this question, and finally decided to go with the S instead of getting the R. The only reason that pushed me this direction is the fact that the S seems like a much better everyday (work and play). The R looks and performs better, but its only a "FUN" car, I just could not see myself taking the kids to the park in it. Maybe the perfect solution would be to get the S and put a nice little XKR next to it
