Default Battery

Hi I have a 2011 Jaguar XF. every month and half or so the car will not start. I have taken it to the dealership at least 7 times. They tell me today that I need to get a battery charging station because since I don't drive the car every day I may drive 3 times a week. That since I don't drive it everyday its sitting and since there's a lot of electrical components with the car its draining the battery. The only way to prevent this from happening is to purchase a battery charging station and keep it charged to the car when I'm not driving it. Has anyone else had this problem. This makes no sense to me.

Did you hear laughing in the background when they told you that?

What does the dealer do when you take it there? Do they just jump start it?

What are symptoms of no start? Does the starter click?

If the battery is dying that often, either you have a bad battery, bad charging system, or there is a drain on the battery. All can easily be tested by someone that knows what they are doing.

Next time it doesn't start, try pushing really hard on the brake pedal and then hitting the start button. I know my Gray 11 XF can act up and need a little extra pressure on the brake sometimes to start. My White 11 XF never has that problem.

That explanation from the dealership is bad advice. There are times mine doesn't move for a week or more and it fires right up. If it's not starting, as Lotus said, one of those three things is wrong.

I have similar driving frequencies as you do, and when I drive, it's only for a few miles in local slow driving.

The dealer should have checked to make sure that the technical service bulletin for the infotainment system not shutting down (in the background) has been done. Otherwise, they need to do that. I had that done but I was still having problems until Jaguar finally agreed to give me a new battery under warranty.

Unfortunately, Jaguar batteries are junk, and the replacement only lasted a few months. When that one went bad after a few more months, I bought an Autozone AGM H-8 battery (even though I had Jaguar warranty on the last Jaguar battery) and no problems since.

Good luck.

If the battery in question is the OE battery, in other words, 6 years old, replace it!!
