Default Battery Bracket won't come off but turns

Need to replace my battery as it is diving, original batter on a 2011 XF which has lasted long time. Simple job but the bracket to hold down the battery will not come off or up, in particular the long thread that goes into the base of the car, picture enclosed. It turns and turns and turns but never comes up. Any suggestions to get this thing to come up.

Thanks

Should have run a spell checker but you get the point.

You will need a pair of vise grips and maybe pb blaster. If you look under the vehicle, there are nut-serts under where the bolt goes through the body. Put the vise grips and be prepared to hold tight and then release the bolt. If its a pain, some pb blaster will help.

What Rummy says above.

I just secured my bracket yesterday as it had nothing on end of bolt to hold it down.
I used a 2 1/2 long 1/4" bolt with coarse thread and a lock nut. Had to use a large (1") flat washer on underside as smaller washer was just getting pulled up inside bottom of trunk.

Excuse my ignorance use vise-grips and loosen bolt on the bottom as opposed to the bolt inside the trunk or hold the bolt on the bottom while loosening bolt in the trunk?

No problem. Attached pic shows the underside of trunk on my 2012 XF. You need an assistant to hold the captive nut underneath. While there you can loosen and lubricate all of them. When I did mine I applied some heat to the bottom of each bolt first and then loosened the bolts.

If your bolt is v rusted (or breaks as mine did...) you can get a low cost replacement as it's a common part on Fords too. $7. See my earlier thread on this

I have a 2012 Jaguar XF 3.0 D and have needed to change my battery.

Earlier this year the battery was flat and the car would not start so I put it on trickle charge for the day.

That seemed to do the trick and the car has started fine throughout the summer.

Drove to work yesterday and got a dash warning ‘Battery not charging’

Whilst I know that either the battery, or the alternator, might have caused this, given my earlier battery issue, I gambled and bought a new Bosche battery.

When I came to disconnect the old battery, I encountered the same problem, could not unscrew the fixing bracket bolt.

Having read the enclosed responses, I sprayed WD40 on the underside of the bolt (which was well worn and rusted and decomposing)

I then placed the mole grips on the underside, and socket on the top of the bolt, but still no joy, it simply wouldn’t budge?

So I sprayed again inside and out on the fixing bolt, gave it a hard tap, top and bottom with a hammer.

I then put the socket and wratchet on the top and mole grips on the bottom, and turned both at the same time.

I had to use quite a bit of torque, to the point when I felt it would surely snap the bolt, before it would turn?

But luckily, I managed to get some play on the bolt, after a bit of wiggling of the holding arm, and some more good luck, the bolt finally began to turn, and managed to get it out.

Thank you for these posts, without them, I simply would not have got the bolt out.

Much appreciated
