Default Battery charging on XFR-S?

I have a 2015 XFR-S which has the battery monitoring equipment on the negative post of the battery. I have tried to maintain using my old Optimate 3 SP but this only 'charges' for 15 minutes or so before going green which indicates charged (which it isn't). I didn't earth it to the battery either but used a bolt at the bottom of the boot to earth it.
Is the Optimate unsuitable and should I just get myself a CTEK MXS 5.0 instead?
I'm constantly getting the 'low battery' warnings which are probably correct as I don't use the car much and when I do, it's usually only a short trip.
Any help or suggestions welcome.

Get the CTEK, plug it in and forget about it. Best money you will ever spend on your Jag.

But will it work with the battery monitoring equipment?
The manual states 'The battery must be disconnected and removed from the vehicle before charging.'
I don't want to do anything harmful!!

I have the BMS fitted in my car and my CTEK is fitted and is on whenever the car is in the garage. It's been that way for 2 years now with no problems whatsoever.

If you wish to remove the battery every time you need to charge it then go ahead.

Thanks for that. Do you attach it to both battery terminals or do you earth it separately?

Note there is a difference between "Battery charger" and "Battery maintainer" Batt Maintainers can be hooked to the battery while its still in the car they will cycle on and off while regulating current flow (Amps) in accordance with the batterys state of charge (Voltage) Battery chargers if optioned (most stay on until you turn them off), will only cycle from on to off and do max charging ALL THE TIME. this is why the battery needs to come out of the car for CHARGING.

My 4yo $22 battery charger/ maintainer.

Charger is hooked to Higgins any time he sits for more than 2 days..<br/>

No, the Jaguar recommended method is to connect the positive of the maintainer to the positive of the battery and the negative of the maintainer to a designated ground point which should be in your manual, usually the closest to the battery.

This is exactly the way mine is connected.

Thanks for the explanation. That now makes sense.

Ok, many thanks. I get the CTEK tomorrow so this is what I'll do.
