Battery died battery charger deactivated key? HELP
So rewind. Last year I did a year end overhaul on my 2009 Jaguar xf non super charged. Car sat after. Needed a jump start. Jumped with cables and a truck. Started fine. I shut it off shortly after and didn't give the car battery enough time to charge. Hooked up a battery charger and set to jump start feature and battery drained low and deactivated the key or set of the immobilizer. I had a check locksmith come out that claimed he had experience with Jaguar come to find out he did not. He could not get the key fob reprogrammed to start the car. Key fob was dropped and broken after this and I need to know where to get a new key fob and have it programmed or do I need something more. Car says smart key not found. Can I order a key fob online and pay the locksmith that says they can do it for 450 and guarantee my car is going to start? Please help I need it back on the road asap! Thank you so much
Hard to say but if he guarantees it at least you could get your money back.
What you need to do is get the car hooked up to the dealer SDD system and see what codes you have. If do some searches you will see this is a common and hard to fix problem on the XF. It can take several different paths depending on what happened to the car. Sometimes reprogramming will fix it other times people have had to replace junction boxes to fix it.
I have had good luck with the cheap chinese FOBS/keys purchased on Ebay. But that's up to you as others have had problems and it is a risk.
