Default Best Car Seat?

I bought my wife a 2011 XF that has very few miles. We have two grandchildren under two years old. My wife wants to put two car seats in the back and I am wondering what is the best child car seat to put in. I am looking for something that is easy to put in to the seat belt system and also be kind to the leather seats without damaging them over time.

Anybody got experience on this? All advice is appreciated.

I have a Recaro in mine along with a base for a capsule. We also have these seat protectors in our Edge and the Jag with towels under them. Yes the towels look out of place but it is another layer of protection from a three year old.

Recaros are larger than most but with their history and the fact they design and build their own car seats unlike most "fashion" brands that slap their name on something I will tolerate the larger size.

Also the anchors are very easy to use they are not the standard style "j" clips most seats use you push them onto the anchor and they have a button that releases.

Hi Sharky! If I'm not mistaken, your grandchildren at that age should use rear-facing car seats. My girl was older when I got my Jag so she could sit front facing. I used Graco for her with her rear facing one. They too have a base that you can leave and remove the carrier from to carry the babies.

Good luck!

yes, sir....rear facing for my grandchildren for now. But I was looking at a car seat that I can use both ways. I just bought a Recaro one that can be used either way. I got lots of advice from this forum as well as another. I appreciate all the input. I just want to get one that does not damage the leather while still being very safe and functional with side protection as well.

+1 on the Recaro
I have 2 Recaro prorides in the backseat.

I have the prince lionheart seat protectors and they help keep the car clean. I also have the Brica seatback protectors for the front seats. You will want these once they face forward and put their footprints on the back of your seat.

An alternative to the towels is to buy a foam pool noodle and cut them to help level the seat.

My kids love riding in the back of the XFR. Good luck.

Wow you guys are better men than I. I don't even let my wife (or anyone else) eat food in my XFR, let alone let a grubby toddler sit in it. We use her car for the dirty work

Ahhh yes i forgot about the seat protector we have on the back of the passenger seat. I have the towels down to catch what the lionheart protectors miss.

We love our grandchildren and because the car trips are always shorter than 30 minutes, we do not allow them to eat in the car. Other than a sipper cup with water in it, no drinking is allowed either. But our concern is to prevent leather damage. Our previous Jag ended up with marks from the seat base and from the kids kicking the back of the front seats. We hope to avoid that if at all possible. Thanks for your advice. Our new car seats will arrive this week and we will have to see how they do.
