Unfortunately, you've got the larger brake rotors but you might check into stepping down to a 19" wheel. You wouldn't last long in Fort Worth on 20s. We don't build streets to have a smooth surface to drive on, rather the sole purpose of paving is just to keep the dust down. Two years ago, I took off the 19's that came with my Portfolio and bought a set of the 18" Vela's that would have come on the base model PLUS I stepped up the sidewall to 235/50r18 which gave me 3/4 inch more sidewall than the original. Even at that, I've had to have one of the Vela's repaired already. If our government doesn't get its act together and start repairing the streets, we may have to swap brake rotors from the 4cyl XFs and fit some 17s and truck tires.
But I was concerned about fitment too before I bought a whole set of tires. So what I did was I went to one of those "used tire" places and had them for $30, mount one 235/50r18 and took it home and tried it. I turned the wheel lock to lock in the driveway and watched, then when I was fairly sure it was safe, went for a slow test drive around the neighborhood and particularly tried turning full lock while entering the driveway ramp. When that didn't make it rub anywhere, I knew it was good.
I have 255 35 20 fronts... 285 30 20 backs offsets.Can I go up to 40? Or atleast 35 on the backs.
My rims taken a beating this year. Third time this year my car been to a tire shop.
Any advice is appreciated....
to go up to a 35 series rear tire and stay with 20'' wheel, a 255 width tire like on the front is already taller overall than your 285/30 rear... that's right, the front tire are taller, although less than a 1/2'', than the rear..
the front are rubber bands, let alone the rear.
i think the option exercised by those with the funding was to go to forged wheels..
