Default bluetooth stopped working. Ideas?

MY 2011 XF bluetooth suddenly stopped working. If I put it in search mode, it sits there for ever on the search screen. I tried deleting the existing paired phone and it asks me to confirm the delete, which I do, but the phone is still shown on the screen afterwards. I tried pairing from the iphone and it finds nothing.

Any ideas for troubleshooting? Is it worth disconnecting and reconnecting the battery a a crude reboot?

My car had this from the get go when I bought it about 5 months ago. Very frustrating but don't feel like spending the money to get to the bottom of it or to replace anything expensive.

The Bluetooth module is below the passenger (right hand) front seat. Several people have reported water ingress and rusting of the module which has caused issues with the connections. So maybe start there. Requires removing the front seat - but it's not too hard

Or maybe a hard reset of the car would help delete the previous pairing?

How do you do the hard reset? I also have this problem, will not search for phone.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes.
Easiest way is to unbolt the battery earth lead from where it connects to the floor of the trunk.
