Brake pad replacement time - serviced at 21,000 miles.
As you can see from my signature below, I currently drive a 2013 5.0 SC, US spec motor.
My car just hit 21,000 miles ( bought it as a VIP loaner with only 1,000 miles on it about 21 months ago).
Neither of the pad wear sensors had been "tripped" yet but I was very tired of the massive amounts of brake dust I was cleaning off every week.
I found a supplier of HART ceramic brake pads on ebay (same supplier I used for my old 2010 non-sc 5.0 XF a few years ago) called "usdirectparts" on eBay.
I called them at 1-888-801-2790 to place my order and because I ordered both front and rear pad sets, I got another $10 off my order and got free shipping. My total bill was just under $90 USD.
The part numbers are:
Front pads - BA71521
Rear pads - LZ71521
The install was uneventful. A direct swap, even the wear sensors fit as they should. I reused the rotors as they still measured within spec. They will need replacing next time.
As you can see by the pictures, the front pads were in very good shape and would have lasted another 20,000 miles if I wanted to deal with the brake dust. The rear pads were very close to tripping the wear sensor, the plastic head was already starting to bite into the rotor. Enteresting enough, the inner rear pads on both sides are worn much more than the outer.

Brake feel is very much the same. I now have about 200 miles on the new pads and they are very smooth, quiet, and secure.

Hey 10 XF premium - any reason you went with those vs. ebc reds?
And jesus, $120 for a full set of rotors/pads?! I paid ~600 for front and rear ebc rotors and redstuff pads o.0
My brake pad warning sensors came on but according to my maintenance guide I should still have 7k miles on the pads. Visual inspection shows 5-6mm still and brakes still grab pretty well. I'm gonna wait until the last minute since I'm replacing both pads/rotors anyway. Expecting to get 40k out of each set - am I being delusional?
Oh and how much wear did you have left on those rotors? Others have mentioned the rotors will do something like 1.5 pad changes. Might be cheaper to do pad changes 10k earlier, save the wear sensor and get twice the life out of each rotor. 30k on pads, 60k on rotor. Thoughts?

I used Hawk pads and rotors on my old 10 XF and they worked great and the price was good.
So I choose to go again with them.
The bite is great, very smooth and predictable.
I am questioning what trim level mrathell to find them for $120 a full set. The 4cyl/v6 models have much smaller brakes.

My '09 XF isn't a supercharged car, so the parts and/or part numbers for what I bought may not be the same, so I won't bother looking them up and posting them here. However, about 18 months ago, when I started hearing "scraping noises" from the rear brakes, I pulled the wheels and took a look.
Not realizing that A) the XF appears to have a higher than "normal" rear brake bias; and B) the traction control is achieved by applying rear brakes, I found that my rear brake pads were REALLY worn. More so that any other car I've seen, with only 25,000 miles on the clock.
I put the wheels back on the car, and started shopping for replacement parts. Since I, too, was VERY tired of the extreme brake dust that the OE pads generated, I looked for ceramic pads. I wound up getting Beck Arnley rotors and PowerStop ceramic pads. I bought them through Rock Auto Parts, a large, American online retailer. The cost was a tad under $400, for 4 rotors and 2 sets of pads.
The stopping power is good, in my opinion, even in cold, winter weather. What did disappoint me, however, was that after starting to do the replacement of parts, I found that the front brakes hardly had any wear at all. Had I realized this, I probably would have just "sucked it up", regarding the brake dust, and just replaced the rear pads/rotors.....

I have the V8 BTW, not SC.
it ended up costing me a little more than the $120 because I switched from the regular rotors to drilled and slotted rotors.
The rotors I originally ordered were $82 (shipped) for all 4.
I cancelled those and ordered drilled & slotted rotors $151 (shipped) for all 4
The ceramic pads cost $22 for the front and $16 for the rear. The price included shipping.
I've ordered pads and rotors from these distributors in the past for other cars of mine and got years of flawless use out of them so I felt comfortable trying them on the Jag.
I installed them myself a week ago and I absolutely love them.
The braking behaves the same as it did when I had the factory rotors/pads on the car.
This is the first time I've ever gone a week without the need to clean brake dust off of my rims. One week of driving and my rotors are brake dust free
