Default CEL problem showing this code: P0411

I have a continuous but intermittent CEL problem showing this code: P0411.

Jaguar USA and Jaguar Canada claim to be "working " on this problem.

Since the demo I drove in June of 2008 also showed this fault I am sceptical they are actually working on this problem.

Anyone else have this, particularly in Denver as they claim this is connected to high elevations. i am at 1,000 meters (3300 ft) which is lower than Denver.

do you start the car and let it sit for a minute when cold? or do you start and go on you way, this seems to be an issue but not yet proven,a few have reported that that may be the cause??

The car is in a heated garage at each end of my usual journey so I start the car, put my seat belt on and usually my sunglasses and back out of my garage.

The CEL seems to go on within a minute or two of starting, ie it goes out as usual and then goes on when the car is outside the garage.

It does not appear to be ambient temperature related except it has not gone on in winter.

Jaguar replaced a solenoid controlling the air injection circuit with no effect.

early 2009. I have had one fix installed already, a new solenoid on the air pump. My dealer says another software fix is expected to get approved in Canada shortly.

Have the same p0411 problem (salt lake city 3000 feet). Could you confirm the fix is for the 09's? Is it just another ECM update like the p0941/942 fix?

Thank you.

I do not know what the latest fix is to be but I suspect it will be a software update because the hardware fix had no effect. My car is an early build '09 purchased in July of 2008.

I think the software fixes have to be approved by the Feds as they will form part of and affect the OBD II system which may explain why it takes so long to implement them.

I think I've figured out an ignition sequence that stops that code from coming back.

1. Turn on ignition but not engine (press button without pressing the brake).
2. Put on your seat belt, glasses ...etc. whatever you normally do.
3. Make sure the warning triangle has shown up in the center console LCD just under the passenger side heating control (not the instrument cluster LCD), apparently that signals the end of the smart charge system check.
4. Now start the car.

It will take a few cycles to clear your current code and any pending ones. From what I understand it's still an issue of the smart charge system doing its checks and the 2ry air injection system coming on at the same time (while coolant temp 15-35C).

This procedure did not work on my car.

The CEL goes out on its own at random intervals and then re-appears at equally random intervals.

Are you sure you waited for the red warning triangle in the 7" center console LCD, and not the instrument cluster LCD? Also you most likely have multiple pendings so it might take more than just 2 drive cycles to clear the code. Let me know how you get on.

There is supposed to be a new calibration forthcoming. No exact ETA.

the 2010 4.2 updates do fixs the problem but some 2009 XF it doesn't. New patch file coming out in a month or so should fix the 2009 XF's that still get that code

Every car I have installed patch available on IDS version 119 has been corrected except one car with 62k miles had sticking valve and that car has gone another 12k after freeing valve without replacement.

Low miles here, less than 2K on it still.

Default P0411 after reflash.

You are still getting the p0411 code after having the reflash done with what was supposed to be the correct software? Unfortunately the only way to tell the software level in the ECM is to do a scan with the IDS/SDD. If you do still get the code I would have a Jag dealer verify that the correct software is installed.

It was updated to the latest version of the software around the end of October 09. I have the printout that shows which version of the IDS software, that was done to fix the p0491 p0492 CEL that I had at the time. A week or so later the P0411 showed up took it back and they said it had the latest version, Jaguar is aware of the problem and a fix is on the way (obviously nothing as of yet for the 09s). I've also been in contact with Jaguar themselves, and a rep is keeping me updated weekly (nice girl, she calls me but all I get is they're working on it and no ETA yet).

The p0411 did show up 3-4 times since the initial reflash, only to go away on its own. It's been a while since the last time it came on, I've been using a new start-up procedure that I was hoping would eliminate the code. No code as of yet, although I haven't been driving as much lately. So who knows.

EDIT: one more thing, I am in salt lake so 4000 feet up and very very cold. I think Jagular mentioned earlier in this post it might have something to do with elevation.

I am told that it is a fault that tends to show up in my location (Calgary AB at 3,300 ft) and not in other parts of Canada.

Mine switches off after about three weeks of routine driving (I assume the number of re-starts of the engine is relevant to clearing of the CEL). Then it returns apparently at random. This has happened for about six months now.
