Default changing speedometer cluster - what do I need to be aware of?

My car started its life in canada, which means the speedometer has kmph as the bigger numbers and mph as the smaller on the speedometer.

I found a bunch of gauge clusters on ebay for about $100...but before I go ahead and commit...what do I need to be aware of? are they plug and play or do I need to do some dealer coding? Immobilizer?

as an alternative....it would probably be easiest to just swap out the speedo itself rather than the whole cluster...do those sections popout?

Do not attempt to just swap the clusters!

There are several security features associated with the instrument cluster and you WILL find yourself with an immobilised vehicle if it's not done properly and with the dealers diagnostic tool (SDD).

There was some discussion here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...p-help-163433/

Make sure whoever you get your dash from has a return policy, ESPECIALLY IF ITS EBAY. Got more than a few DOA electronic devices from them.

Default I'm a victim

I purchased a used speedometer cluster on eBay and tried to return and they refused and would not acknowledge the immobilizer and did they sold a lot and never had any complaints. After arguing they would accept the return but charge me a restock fee and that I would have to pay for the shipping. After the smoke clears they have another unit and I end up with nothing. One good thing in their posting it stated guarentee to work... which my attorney is looking into.
