Question 2012 XF (X250) Intermittent Headlight & High Beam Issue – Need Advice

Hello everyone. I’m joining you from Turkey with a 2012 XF (X250). In our country, these cars are quite expensive (around 40,000 USD), and I bought mine about 6 months ago. Since the day I purchased it, I haven’t been able to solve my headlight problem =)

On the first day I bought the car, I installed Photon Milestone LED xenon bulbs for stronger illumination. After that, my right headlight started to intermittently not turn on. Until I realized the issue was caused by the bulb, I tried many different things. I temporarily solved it by not using the automatic headlight mode and just turning them on and off manually. In auto mode, the headlights were acting strangely.

Later on, the left side (driver’s side) high beam stopped working while the headlights were in the “on” position. There is no problem on the right side. However, the left side works intermittently — sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t at all.

After switching back to the original Osram D3S bulbs, the issue of the headlights turning off in auto mode was resolved. However, my left headlight still sometimes flashes (for high beam / passing) and sometimes doesn’t.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Can anyone help?

Sound like a ballast is packing up, they are attached to each headlights, the original are made by Osram.
just check the code on the ballast and buy a new one, or you will find loads on ebay

First before buying or assuming anything. Swap the units from side to side and see if the problem follows the light or stays on that side of the car. Use the stock bulbs until you get it all back to normal. After market bulbs like you tried to use can and have caused all kinds of problems.

Post back with what you find.
