Default Console software/firmware upgrade?

Just drove a 2012 XF while my 2009 XF P/L was being serviced. Ride was good, interior nice with some modest visual improvements. What struck me was the console controls (climate, nav, audio, etc.) - the software is a dramatic improvement over the original and I think 2011. Does anyone know if a 2009 can be 'upgraded' to this new software/firmware?

Highly unlikely....I am going in for my Canadian inspection at the dealer (so they will cover my US vehicle under Jag Canada Warranty) and asking them if there are at least updates to the bluetooth that will improve the regular dropping of connection.

On my '09 XF-SC, the dealer reprogrammed my console so that the standards/metric reading is correct as my car came up to Canada from the USA. It was a bit brighter but I didn't come the firmware to the 2012. I would image it is going to be different since the new XF (think '10) and newer uses HD base Nav.

The 2012 is now a hard drive based system like the XJ which is completely different than the previous years. I'd imagine you have to replace the entire system so short answer: no it can't be done. I tried the 2012 system out at the dealer and I was still pissed that there was delay after pushing a button like there is in the previous years. It might even be worse.

How fast do you want it to be. It's pretty fast. The earlier production 2011 XJ's would really **** you off. Those are slow to respond. The XF is pretty quick.

The 2011 software can not be upload to previous models however my 2010 navigation is pretty nice the signal arrows shows in the center of the instrument panel. I think this can be uploaded in 2009 models

After driving a 2012 around for a bit the 2012 system is perfectly fine. It is not laggy/slow like my 2009. So I was mistaken or the other car I tried had some issues.

I think mine is fine ('11XFR), but I'd give my left foot to be able to enter information while moving. Whoever restricted input based on movement should be shot, then run over, then shot again...

I sampled the 2012 XFR's system....I actually think the 2009-2011 system is a little bit faster. I was surprised. I also think that the darker color scheme of the new system makes the screen appear to be much smaller.

Thank the likes of the hot-coffee-lady and others that would sooner opt to sue someone than take blame for their own actions.

The no-entry-while-moving and many other restrictions are required for US cars but not for other countries. Yay for the land of the lawsuit.
