Converting Jaguar Premium sound to B&W - 2012 MY
Good day! I'm new to this forum, since I have just got my first Jag two months ago - it's a 2012 XF 3.0D Portfolio, and I love everything about it, except one thing that just makes me lose sleep - the sound system. The one I have is the "jaguar premium sound", that does have the amp and the sub, but does not have a center speaker, and no Dolby Prologic either. I had a Volvo S80 with Dynaudio sound before that, and, compared to that setup, this "premium sound" is, well, disappointing.
So, naturally, I tried to do something about that. Replacing the front speakers was easy - I just replaced them with the B&W ones, and that really improved the sound.
The part that is still driving nuts is replacing the amp. I've got the Alpine amp from the B&W sound package, the connectors are ok, but of course just plugging it in doesn't make it work, since it's connected to the MOST bus, which needs to be reconfigured for the new amp, and after that, I have to do something to make those DSP settings appear in the menu.
Now, the question I have is - does someone have any experience in this case? I understand that I need a VCM and IDS/SDD software to do that, but so far every local dealer says that they won't do that since they're not allowed to. The question is - is it at least theoretically possible, or am I wasting my time and money?

Funny thing - the same architecture is used in Volvo, and such things involved a software update worth $80. I just can't imagine a cost-prohibitive software update, since I already have all the needed hardware
This is a very interesting topic for me as well since I would love to know the answer. B&W sound system is really great. But I just think it's a lot of work to do it. Is it worth the hassle is the question I am asking myself. Also does it void any of the warranty?
The problem is, I am that stereo shop, and hoped that the local techs would help me with reflashing the head unit. =)
LOL. Okay I get it. See if you can get a hold of the Jag tech line that the service guys use if they get stumped with an issue. Not sure about Jab but I know that Mercedes has one as I had to go that route when I swapped a non-GPS unit for one with GPS. All the wires hooked up, unit powered up but no active GPS. I took it to the dealer and pretended that the ML's GPS wasn't working. They had to call a national number to trouble shoot and get it working. Good luck with it. Andrew
P.S. Maybe you can talk to an electrician about it?

As for the sound quality - I really like the B&W system. I had a 2010 XF with the Premium sound and the B&W is more richer and more "robust" sounding which I guess makes it better. The Premium system is still a great system in my opinion - the B&W just has different acoustics.
I am especially interested in this post. I have a 2010 XF which is a title vehicle. It was stolen and the doors etc removed. The original vehicle had a premium sound system and was then replaced with the interior from an XF with the B& W system and has centre and rear parcel shelf speakers and all B&W units in the doors.
I obtained an amp for the B&W unit from a wreck and was assured by a Jag tech online that the radio module can handle B&W if it has the six CD changer, which it does.
He claimed just connect new amp, with additional inputs and upgrade software. My local Jag dealer switched amps and claimed he could not upgrade. I do not believe them.
Can anyone help me with this. What software upgrade will do the trick?
