Cool Cup holder in xf 2009 (Door hatch problem)

Anything I seem to put on the top of these things slides down behind the cup holder and it doesn't allow me to close the door to the cup holder.. I got so fustrated today.. I pinched it and took it out.. (My smart phone fell behind there this time.. The first time it was my garage pass)..

I removed it without breaking it.. the coil or any of the plastic.. But, I'm scared to put it back in.

Specifically, I'd like instructions or a diagram of how it's suppose to fit.. Cause god know's I don't want to break it.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the comfort of not having it on.. It just doesn't seem right to me though.

Please help before I call the dealer.. Only to be told that it's not covered.

Much appreciated..

It's designed to be removable. I removed mine permanently. I don't need one cup holder let alone three (???).

You accidentally removed it in the correct way. Reinstallation is a snap, literally. You just place it back into the bin and press down gently, it should just snap in with very little effort. Removal is, as you describe, a slight pinch to release the tabs and lift out.

My advice? Just leave it out.

Thanks for your quick response Jagular.

No problem.. I have decided to never put the cup holder back as well.. But, the real issue here is snapping the wood grain door hatch that covers the cup holder.

-If your sitting in the drivers seat. There's a coil that is on the right hand side that needs to be put on the right hand side as you snap the hatch back in.
-It has a few notches and a dial.

I'm not sure how to snap that in securely (Coil with cup holder cover hatch) so the hatch can work properly. I could snap it back in. But, I'm sure it wouldn't function correctly.

I just want to put the cover back on minus the cup holder.

Sorry, misunderstood your situation. The cup holder insert is removable without removing the cup holder lid. I am referring to the double cup holder, not the single one. Removing the insert makes it deeper and nothing can slip out of sight.

The lid is clearly designed to be removable but I do not know how to remove it. That coil probably has to be indexed as the lid opens by spring operation.

The rectangular panel right behind that lid is also removable. It is held on by steel spring clips. Removing that may make it easier to see how that lid snaps back in.

That trim strip pops out to reveal the transmission emergency release strap to take it out of Park for towing. Pop it out carefully so as not to chip the veneer. It just press snaps back in.

That helps! I think I will do just that. Just wanted to confirm I was going about it the right way. Much appreciated.
