I'm considering imported a US car to Canada, I've done this with a couple other cars and it hasn't bee problematic. I'm wondering what the experience is out there regarding the issuance of recall clearance letters and the enabling of Daytime Running Lights.

I see they've even dedicated a section of the Canadian Jag page to scaring people into using the Canadian dealer exclusively to do this. In addition its referenced in the RIV.ca page. Can anybody comment?

 

Apparently DRL is just a software option but only a jaguar dealer can do it. US dealers can do it, they have access to the codes.

French labeling may be an issue. I don't know if US speedos are Canada legl as they give prominence to mph. I test drove a US spec XJ not knowing it was a US car and didn't realize the big numbers were mph and not km/hr! I was doing 100 on the bypass. That's 160 km/ hr.

 

The mph markings aren't a problem provided that there are kph markings on the inner portion of the speedometer. At least it hasn't been on the two cars I've imported to date.

Replacing the cluster is a touch cost prohibitive...well, actually it just eats away at the savings of importing.

The other aspect is that the resale market is so tight on Jag's in western Canada that it's really hard to find what you want.

 

Sorry, the end of the last post didn't make any sense. I was trying to say that the other reason to consider importing is that the market is tight here for used Jags.

 

Yes it is. The Calgary dealership is one of the most successful in Canada and many jag lovers don't sell their cars.

 

I brought a 2010 SC in last year ago almost exactly. I flew down to NC and drove it home.

I paid a US dealer near my seller to do the DRL conversion. Cost me about $90 USD.

I also had the US dealer give me a print out from the Jaguar system showing that there were no outstanding field service items...which is all I had to provide RIV. Cost me $0.

Jaguar Canada was VERY helpful but required that a Canadian dealer inspect the vehicle before it was considered covered under Canadian warranty. I can't remember exactly what this cost but I think around $400. All else was a breeze and I have had some warranty covered work done since here in Canada. They really did treat me well here in Ontario much to my surprise.
