Default "Directory Empty" when trying to voice dial bluetooth contacts

I just bought a 2009 XF Premium with bluetooth.
First, I deleted everything in my phonebook.
Then I paired my iPhone
It auto-uploaded my contacts just fine.
I see my contacts listed
But when I use the Jag's voice command to dial a contact by name, it says "Directory Empty".
Any ideas?

I've recycled (rebooted) my car many times but same issue persists.

Thanks.

look in your owners manual for the procedure to get the car to recognize the names. first you have to speak each name after entering the number... or calling the number up. the system cannot read, you have to speak each name and then repeat it before the system knows the name and which number it goes with.

Oh, that's too bad. I have several hundred numbers/names. So the system has to hear me pronounce each and every one? Too bad they can't continuously update the software in our cars like they do everything else, lol.

Not at all. It should automatically download them all. Once that's complete, just push the voice button and start making phone calls. That easy.....maybe there a glitch in the software of your car?

Here is the owner's manual. Scroll to page 134 to see if you can figure it out. Maybe we are all missing something.

There is no software glitch, and the only thing being missed is that the manual you reference is for MY 2012 and later. The question was about a MY 2009 car, which like my 2011 works exactly as explained in Raven's post.

Yes, i did link the incorrect file. Apologies...... But, the concept is the same for all model years MY09-12+. Click for the commensurate file Jaguar International - XF 2009

Still, doesn't say anything about having to go through each name and number in 2009-2011 manual, page 304-310.
The manual says download phone book (autocratically or manually). Once downloaded, push Voice command and initiate a phone call.

If there is no glitch in the system, then the information published in the manual is wrong? I don't think so.

Thumbs down

This appears to be a Jaguar special item designed to keep the brand esoteric and exclusive - no phonebook/directory download function. I have a 2011 and an iPhone 5 - the car does not recognize the remotely stored phonebook/directory, through both a Bluetooth and a wired connection. I guess I am going to have to manually store the most important contacts.
