Hmm, I'll have to take a look at my manual, it seems they like to change it up over the years.

2009 XF SC, I have the passive alarm enabled. I walk away from car to pay for gas in gas station, after 30 seconds the parking lights flicker once and alarm is enabled.

Heres the thing, even with my key in had, if I open the passenger door, the alarm goes off.
I just get "jaguared" sometimes.

Something is wrong with the passenger door fob sensor if that occurs with just that one door. With the keyfob in my pocket, I could open any door of my 2009 S/C and then shut it to restart the timeout. Occasionally I had to do that to unlock the fuel door if I missed opening it during an earlier timeout.

Indeed, with the passive alarm function enabled, the alarm sets automatically after about 30 seconds when all the doors are shut and no key fob is inside the vehicle. The doors remain unlocked but the fuel door locks. If the doors or trunk are opened and no key fob is near the vehicle, the alarm will activate. MY 2009 MY allowed owner enabling of the passive alarm funtion. For the 2012 MY, only the dealer can enable it. Don't know about the 2010 and 2011 MYs. This function provides protection in the event that someone forgets to lock the car. It can also be deliberately used for areas subject to theft attempts of car contents to eliminate forced-entry vehicle damage.
I have a 2010, so you can assume the 09-11s can do it.
