There is still a big difference between enforced segregation in medieval Venice and economic segregation in 20 th century America. At least in my opinion.

I would not call your car Ghetto but for my liking wheels are just too big for the design of the car. You car would look nicer with the same design but 20".

Without a doubt.

thanks for responding.

Looks like I would have gotten more "Yes" responses if the ghetto reference was left out. That's encouraging in a way.

I don't think your car looks distasteful, however, I do think that the large rim // thin tire thing is getting old. Your car is just another statistic. When your 60 you won't think it's cute anymore.

I guess I am a purest and see Jaguars for what they are.. beautiful automobiles that should be left alone as stock. I've seen everything from Jaguars with fake stick-on hood vents, BMW's with low-rider wheels, and rusted out old Cadillacs with thousand dollar rims. I don't get it and it's a shame.

I've now run across several people who went from the LX platform to the XF. Hope the 300 treated you well minus the front suspension issues you likely had.

The size looks fine on the rear, but too big on the front. Weird huh? Must be something to do with the large expanse of rear quarter panel, compared to the front wing!?

BrownRObin - I like that response. Who knows what my tastes will be at 60 if I'm blessed to live that long but it's true they will likely be different.

We're just from different schools of thought. A big part of my love for cars and the joy of ownership is making it uniquely mine. While there's a lot of "customization" that doesn't appeal to me, I try to respect everyone's effort.

When I see a stock XF for instance, I of course think it's gorgeous. However, I also think it's exactly like 100,000 other XFs. I like that I'll likely never pull up next to a car that looks exactly like mine.

Why do you conclude "segregation in 20th century America" was/is "economic" only and not "enforced?" What is your knowledge of "segregation in America?"

In the picture, it looks just fine. Not sure how it would be in person.

What wheels did you have on it before? The best I can tell, the OEM 18" wheels are around 22-23 lbs (couldn't find any specifics though). That 22" is 35 lbs. I suppose the tires could be lighter, but I doubt it.

OEM Jaguar wheels are surprisingly good and made in Italy. They are just cast alloys though. Forged wheels are generally lighter than cast. However, metal is heavier than air. Large rims with small tires are generally heavier than small wheels with large tires.

The biggest difference is the effective spring rate of the tire. Larger rims reduce the volume of air inside the tire and so raise the spring rate. The shorter sidewall also stiffens the ride but so does the smaller air chamber. This assumes the same rolling circumference, as is the case here.

Looks are one thing and performance quite another. Some fairly ugly cars are great to drive, Porsche springs to mind. The XF is both beautiful and a hoot to drive. Bonus.

My OEM wheels are 20" Volans. I assume you got the 35lb. figure from DNJ where they list every 22" forged wheel of any brand as weighing 35lb.

You would be correct about DNJ. Those were the only numbers I could find and yours were the only ones I checked out. I guess they aren't reliable if all the 22" wheels are 35lbs.

Heh heh, I disagree. Sort of. I think the quarter panel expanse make the rear wheels look to small.

Automotive styling of the last few years includes tall, "bulked up" rear ends and slender, tapered front ends. The end result is rear wheels looking a bit tiny and lost in the vast swath of sheet metal......and made more obvious by the exact opposite in the front.

I see (and dislike) this in many newer cars but BMW stands out as a worst offender in my mind.

Cheers
DD

I estimate 31-32lbs based on my own scale work with mounted wheels.

I wouldn't use the term ghetto either. I believe to each his own. When I was in my twenties, I felt that a nice set of wheels really helped to enhance the look of a car. Especially Japanese imports. However, as I've gotten older (in my 40's) I feel that car manufacturers (especially the European models sold in the US) have done a good job of fitting cars with the right factory wheel package. I especially feel that way about the XF Supercharged and XF-R. I guess I just can't forget what my father always says when the subject comes up--"son, if you have to put rims on your car, then you've bought the wrong car."

I think those wheels look sweet. Maybe an inch smaller and a bigger tire would be better though. Not ghetto

Word, my portfolio has 20" senta and they are the reason why I chose my particular car.

They look great. I'm in the Dallas and haven't seen your car round. The rim size is right for the car but maybe you should have gone with a slightly larger rear tire if it would have fit. I personally didn't like the way the stock rear tire looked so I changed them to 285/35/20. And thanks for keeping it classy. Like Jay-Z say "No Chrome on the wheels, I'm a grown-up for real".

BTW, did you lower it?
