Default Downsizing Wheels

The following website suggests that some base XFs came with 17" wheels outside the US market.

https://www.wheel-size.com/size/jaguar/xf/2014/

Do all the base and portfolio trims have the same brake rotor/caliper setup no matter which engine they came with or what country they were sold in? Perhaps someone has installed 17" wheels on their US 5.0L NA or 3.0L, for example maybe for a set of snow tires?

I am planning to downsize to a 17" on a 2017 XE with 18" default wheels. Presitge 25T model.

Although all the current UK XFs appear to be sold with 18" default or larger rims, Jaguar is still offering the option of buying ADDITIONAL rims for these XFs, and a couple of them are 17". Earlier models of the XF (2014) had standard 17" wheels I in some models.
I am considering purchasing a set of these current 17" XF rims to use as my XE winter-tire rims.
Same hole placement, perfectly compatible to the lugs.

From what I understand, the brake caliper is permanently mated to that disc behind the wheel, and doesn't interact with the rim itself. Brake/caliper size does change in some US trims, but I think the UK trims charged you extra if you want to personally resize the calipers (they didn't change the caliper size simply because you bought the higher trim).

Note that even if some 17inch wheels fit, that doesn't mean any 17inch will fit. Depends on the inner curvature of the wheel, how much clearance that gives for the brake calipers etc. if you are going to buy Jag 17inch and they fit some XF models then you could be ok - but ask your dealer to test fit before you mount the tyres. If you are buying aftermarket then absolutely test fit front and back before mounting. Once you put the tyre on most places won't take it back even if it doesn't fit

Personally I'd have thought 18inch gives plenty of sidewall

I believe the majority of NAS XFs came with the 355 mm front brakes, and also that no OEM Jag 17" wheels will fit over the 355 mm calipers. The 17" wheels are designed to fit over the "base" 326 mm front brake calipers.
The NAS 5.0L XF definitely came with 355 mm front brakes, not so sure about the 3.0L.
Before even thinking about 17" wheels check the size of your front brakes, the number is shown on the edge/side of the caliper holder.

Just my $0.02 worth.....

Since narrower tires carve through snow better than wide tires, I "downsized" to 17" rims, and 225/55/17 tires, for winter use, on my '09 XF Luxury. I kept the OD of the OE tires, to keep the computer happy, but the narrower tires work better in the snow/slush. I used 'Elbrus' brand wheels, purchased through Tire Rack.

Apparently so. After pouring through and cross-referencing several online catalogs, different years and configurations, there's two prominent part numbers for front brake rotors

C2C25336 - 326mm
C2C25337 - 355mm

Looks like 2009 all had the 326mm, even the supercharged. Then with the introduction of the 5.0L, they switched to the 355mm and continued on the 3.0L. The 2.0L kept the 326mm.

And just for completeness. The 2010 onwards XFR and XF SC models have a much larger front caliper of 380mm. So only 20inch wheels fit (with a small number of exceptions of a few 19inch that appear to work)

I purchased a set of 18" Velas as would have come on the base XF in 2012. The size tire for those would have been a 245/45r18 which would give me a 1/2 inch more sidewall compared to the Caravellas with 245/40r19.

Has anyone installed a 235/50r18 as that looks to be about the tallest one could go and gives 3/4" more sidewall?

What is the reason for wanting a taller tire? It's quite possible that the added OD will mess with the car's onboard computer, especially the speedometer. The transmission's shift points and/or ABS functions may also be affected.

The difference between the two tire sizes is only 2% on the speedometer so I can't imagine it will impact anything. You do run the risk of rubbing at the back side of the front wheels. I am running 245/45-19 on the front which is a tiny bit taller than your proposed tire and I am not rubbing (barely). My aftermarket wheels are 14mm further outward so I can't say for sure you will be good. Another forum member I talked to is running the same tire size as me but on OEM wheels and he had rubbing with one tire brand but not another. So you can go with the taller tire but know that it may require a heat gun to push the back of the front wheel well back a little for clearance.

Reason is to try and get a fraction of the comfort back that I previously bought an XJ8 for (225/60r16). I've already installed the Spires softer comfort suspension, so now to put some sidewall between me and the asphalt cattle trails that Texas calls roads. I'm also hoping to keep air in the tires as I have been adding air to one or another of my 19s once a week.

I did install a set of 235/50r18s over the weekend. They fit perfect and the difference in ride quality between the original 245/40r19s is phenomenal. Combined with the Spires, its almost a real luxury car now. Plus I think it even looks much better.
