Hi, my 5.0 n/a is about to hit 100,000 km, and I think this is the time to replace the drive belt, right? Please tell me what else I should replace. I'm pretty sure I should replace the tensioner. There are 2 idler pulleys in the system, too. How about them, change or not? Anything else? Thanks for your help!
What belt are you referring to? The 5.0 uses timing chains and then various other belts. 100km seems early for the mammoth task of timing chains unless you are seeing any issues? Other belts you could replace but not sure id do those just for the sake of it

There’s only one belt on the 5.0 n/a, on the front of the engine. It drives the a/c, power steering, water pump and alternator. Anyway, I’ve since received qualified advice to change the 2 idler pulleys and the tensioner at the same time. Originally Posted by BritCars

good time to change the water pump if it hasn’t been done already Originally Posted by prolepsis;[url=tel:2586894

Yes good advice on the water pump and I would add maybe consider going to the much improved lifetime Aluminum cooling pipes? To replace the very failure prone factory plastic parts?
Sorry to add to your repair list but your starting on the front of the engine and will have several items removed that are also required to do the water pump and cooling pipes. The other repairs are all in that area so your sorta half way there already. With the age of the car and miles I would also flush and swap the coolant and again if doing the water pump stuff you have to drain the coolant anyway.
Has the water pump been changed before?

I believe the water pump has been done. The coolant is good. The alloy coolant pipes that I've seen are only for the supercharged engine. If there are items available for the n/a engine I'd appreciate a link. The rear pipe is the one I'd most like in alloy but I haven't seen one of those.Originally Posted by clubairth1

Oh I am sorry! You are right!
They are planning on releasing the NA version but so far I have not seen them.
And they have also said they are looking at doing the rear water manifold but again nothing yet?
Glad to hear the water pump has been changed too. Just keep an eye on the coolant level.
