Default DSC OFF Setting Causing Steering Shake ?

Hello Friends, how are you.

I noticed in my Jag XF when I turn DSC OFF the steering shakes at highway speeds. Almost as if it needs a wheel balance but the shake goes away when I turn DSC setting ON.

I can't figure out if a wheel is slightly off balanced and shake becomes pronounced/noticeable on DSC OFF or if DSC OFF causing the shake and something else is the problem.

Have any of you guys noticed a steering shake at highway speeds with DSC OFF setting ?

I am noticing that Jags are very sensitive in some regards. Please share your thoughts on this.

Thanks,
Teegur

Steering shake and vibration is something I have seen with Jags a lot as opposed to BMWs and Benzs. I have a beamer and a benz that I barely do balance once in a while but I gotta say the BMW's steering just feels way better even if the balance is off there won't be crazy vibrations/shakes not sensitive at all like Jags. Starting to wonder if German Cars are just engineered better.

The wheel balance is off very slightly and the Jag steering starts vibration/shakes. I asked them to balance the wheels again and will see if steering shake/vibration goes away. Most mechanics are not doing perfect wheel balance looks like. Even the Jag dealer sucks out here. Its kinda ridiculous. I told them I am coming back to re-balance they weren't too happy abt it

I think what you might be associating with tolerance of wheel balance in the BMW is actually just overly weighted and numb steering keeping the vibration from being felt.

I enjoy the Jaguar steering. It also changes significantly with tire wear, tire brand, if the wheels are straight and as you've noticed, with wheel balance. I actually drive with dynamic on all the time as it dampens the wheel movement more and lessens the extra feedback I'm not looking for. Try it and see if it helps.

Yeah you might be right BMW is a bit dull/numb relatively compared to Jag. Its a different feel than the Jags.

Jag is my fav car. Its definitely a Driver's car there is no doubt about it. As a driver, I feel everything from the steering to suspension/engine/etc. As a driver, I feel more in control compared to other cars. Best way to describe it would be to say that I feel more synchronized with a Jag whether it is accelerating, handling, cornering, etc. Engine noise is the best

The downside is that the slightest off balance in wheel after driving a few hundred miles can show up in the steering again. Recently, I went for a long drive out of town the steering shake and vibration didn't make the drive pleasant on the hand. I had to go to a few different mechanic shops after the dealership couldn't fix it. Full car inspection at Dealer found everything was ok like steering tie rods, dampers, suspension, struts, etc. Now I am back to re-balance it again for the 3rd time

If they can't get it right. I will have to get down and dirty and fix it myself eventually
