Front brake replacement gotchas?
Hi folks
The 2009 XF Premium Luxury is about to be parked for the winter and I'm getting the To-Do list ready. Besides a wiring harness and some paint touch-ups/scratch repair this year, I've got the front brakes on the list.
So, I'm looking for any recommendations on the best dust-reducing pads to use. The pads on there really produce a lot of dust, and I'd like to cut that down.
Since I'll be doing both pads and rotors, I'd also like to know of any gotchas that I should know about - like having to wind the pistons back instead of compressing them, etc.
Thanks
Z

Which pads to get depends first and foremost on which front brakes you have, the 380 mm or 355 mm.
Look down the side of a caliper and you will see either 380 or 355 embossed into the caliper holder.
For low dust you want ceramic pads (one exception, see below) and there are a wide range of ceramic pads for the 355 mm brakes but very few for the 380 mm brakes.
For the 355 mm brakes I recommend Power Stop Evolution either Z16 or Z17, I put a set of Z16 on my old 2010 XFS and they were the best brake pads I have ever used and extremely low dust.
For the 380 mm brakes you can try EBC Redstuff for road use or Yellowstuff for a more track focussed pad, both get good reports although I have never used them.
Or else you could try Porterfield R4-S "carbon kevlar" pads, I have them on my F-Type and they are reasonably low dust, see here: https://www.lpiracing.com/store/pc/P...762p266555.htm
Don't worry that the page lists them only for the F-Type, if you have the 380 mm front brakes they are exactly the same in every way as those on your 2009 XF including the pads.
