Default Fuel gauge left me stranded

So, I was driving on a major highway today, and I had 1/8 of a tank left. All of a sudden, my engine cut out, and I had to pull over. Yup, I was out of gas notwithstanding the fact that the car was showing that I had 1/8 of the tank left.

So, now I have to determine why the fuel gauge was so inaccurate. I have 80,000 miles, and I have never had this issue before.

It actually also brings me to another topic. The gas tanks in these cars is ridiculously small. Even with a tail wind, it is very difficult to get anything close to 300 miles per tank. I think that is pathetic, and these tanks need to be much larger.

Sorry to read about your trouble.

My NA XF easily gets over 350 miles on a tank with mostly stop and go traffic.

I get about the same as Executive...

Just a thought and a question...First of all, sorry for your car letting you down..

But, are you using ethanol/gasoline of any kind?..or are you using pure 100% gasoline...?

This is just for my own statical purposes...Thanks

Don't forget - US model Jaguars have the removable floor plate so we can use our bare "Fred Flintstone" feet to keep our vehicles going LOL.

More seriously, have you previously had the car that low or lower on the fuel gauge? Did the low fuel indicator illuminate? If this is a new "behavior", you probably have a problem with the float or whatever kind of sensor they have in the tank. I've had to have the tank replaced on a previous non Jaguar vehicle due to this issue.

hey DPK, on my other mileage thread, here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...mileage-90522/ this was my post after your response (stat guys of the world unite!)

latest update;
this is a list of the mpg i've gotten on consecutive tanks. i attribute the range to my driving pattern (obviously). my daily commute is 4 miles. i have taken roadtrips to monterey and vegas though, where i scored the much higher readings. and as an aside i'm still only at a top speed of 120 mph so far, very briefly....
