Default Gearbox Fault and Battery issue

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2021 Jaguar XF 3.0
I drove the car home parked it in my garage, had supper, went back to the car and played around with the infotainment system, connected my phone via bluetooth etc. and left.
The next day I tried to turn on the car but no there was no crank, everything turned on beside the airvents and it didnt crank.
I checked the battery and noticed that the previous owner had a 12v 80AH battery which i thought was too small for a car such as this.
I went charged the battery and tried to start the car with the charged battery but still no crank.
I went out to buy a brand new 12v 100AH battery and returned to the car and it turned on right away. They checked my alternator for me as well and it was working perfectly.
Drove the car home. As i had bought this car second hand i wanted to clean it properly so I sent it to a professional valet wash who detailed the car inside out.
I turned on the car at the valet car wash place and there was a delay in the gearbox dial rising up, and I received and gearbox fault error with no other modules available (or something to that effect).
I was still able to turn the dial to drive and drove the car back home. Turned off the car and turned it back on and still got the gearbox fault error however this time I was not able to turn gearbox dial. It remained stuck in "Park"
I researched on Youtube and there was a fair amount of people who had detailed their car and had the same issue. Apparently water gets into the centre console into the circuitry or wires. Someone suggested using a hair dryer to dry the centre console. I've tried a few time to turn on the car after drying out the centre console however still got the gearbox fault error.
I tried it one last time and left for an hour.
When i returned to my surprise this time the car would not crank! and this was with my brand new battery. So I'm not sure if its due to the amount of times I turned on and off the car in quick succession that it drained the battery?
So now I have a gearbox fault with a raised gear stuck in park and it the engine wont crank! (with a brand new battery). You can imagine how i am regretting purchasing this car.
Does anyone know whats going on?
I am thinking of calling the jaguar dealership on monday to tow and inspect but i can imagine this is going to cost me a ton of $$.
Help!

What is the voltage measured across the battery terminals right now without the car running?

Most likely this is just a battery issue. Gearbox fault is a common error when battery is dead

Could be a module not shutting down and draining the battery

Let's start by checking battery is fully charged (which brand new batteries are often not...)

So if you can measure voltage across terminals and specify if it's an AGM or flooded lead acid battery we can prob help.

When you install a new battery, you need to reset the BMS so the car knows a replacement battery has been installed.
Here's some BMS info.....

This was very helpful and interesting. Thanks for posting! Do you happen to know if, when we replace our batteries, that we have to take our cars to the dealer to recalibrate the BMS or can any shop with a decent OBDC scanner do it? Also, I don't drive my car a lot so I sometimes leave a good Battery Minder trickle charger on it. The dealer connected the leads for me and correctly connected the negative to the frame rather than the negative terminal of the batter. Oddly, sometimes when I disconnect the charger and go to start the car, it fires up the electronics, but does not engage the starter. Usually 3-5 attempts will get it to crank and start and then it never happens again unless I recharge the battery. Am I messing up the logic of the BMS by putting a trickle charger on the car?

You look to have bought the start stop battery, an 80amp battery will not be the correct number for your main battery, you may have a bad main battery...

No regardless of what Jaguar says if you read what was posted above from the Jaguar shop manual it states plainly that the system will self calibrate.
We also have had Brutal who is a Jaguar factory technician state that he has changed dozens if not hundreds of batteries without doing anything.

So yes if you can I would reset it but it is plainly not required.
