Default Glovebox Access

As you can see, I'm getting a lot of use out of this forum since we bought our 2009 XF a couple months ago. At 42,000 miles, it has required a LOT of work since we've had it, but that's another topic.

Today's problem: the glovebox does not want to open. I pass my hand over the sensor quickly, slowly, not touching it, barely touching it slight pressure on it - no response. Even with the FOB in my hand while doing this - no response.

Let me guess - another trip to the smiling guys at the garage?

Use your 1st finger tip, line up your finger so it is pointing straight up toward windshield, and press gently.

You do need to press it and hold for a second.

My old car was very finicky if the finger was cocked off to the side.

Yep, you have to press the button straight on. Angled, sideways or swiping doesn't work.

I find the tip of my finger and letting the nail touch it, hold for a second or so and it works every time

Yeah, I think the button was specifically designed so a swipe doesn't work. Basically it makes it so if you accidentally brush across it, it won't open.

Yeeep, the jacka__ used car salesman said it had to be swiped. He also told us that the Sam's Club tires were actually premium run-flat tires. It's too bad that even the managers accept lying as normal practice as long as it results in a sale.
