Thumbs up Have anyone here installed 20" Snows?

On their XFR? I am weary about snow performance on 20" snow tires. I have them on my panamera but not at all thrilled about them.

Did you guys follow stock sizes or did you downgrade in size? 19" ? I am looking to decide on a snow set real soon! Any advice will be appreciated!

TIA!

I bought it from a private seller...I also called STS Tires who had them in stock (New Jersey).
Where are you located?

Smaller rims work better for snows as the sidewall height adds flexibility. In low grip situations that flexibility makes driving easier as the drive take up is less abrupt.

Better to fit 19 inch rims with taller profile tires. Width of tread isn't as important as sidewall height.

Default XFR - only one option

I spent a great deal of time with the TireRack last year and the only option that works is 20" wheels and tires. Believe me they tried 19" of various different makes but there is not enough clearance between the rim and the brake calipers. I have 20" Sottozero's on mine and they work brilliantly well in cold weather (today was -13C) and in the snow. Call them and check - they should remember my car.

I've had mine for 18 months and it's a great car - fast and comfortable and great for long distances. It's a nice under the radar alternative to the usual Audi, BMW and Mercedes suspects. It's also been reliable so far and easy on the wallet. I might end up selling it though as I need about what the car is worth to fund the remainder of the restoration on my 911. Like all restoration projects think of a number and double it...

And I'm not French exactly.

I know for a fact that you can fit 19 inch wheels to the XFR. Tire Rack isn't the authority on fitment.

In fact, 18 inch wheels will fit if they are the right ones.

I just installed the Pirelli's Sotto (20 inch) in my XFR..they were the perfect fit and the car still looks great.
I will not recommend anything other than the Pirelli's...Jaguar and any other pro. on these forums will recommend the Pirelli's

I watched the TireRack measure my car using a laser system and no 18" wheel on their database would get close to clearing the calipers. 19" would clear the calipers but by only 3mm which they deemed not a big enough gap to be safe. 5mm was the minimum they would accept for clearance, so it meant sticking with the OE wheel.

When I check with Jaguar in the UK they told me that 20" was the recommendation for winter wheels and that nothing smaller could be fitted.

My only thought is that Coventry are using the older Supercharged model as their reference (and 18" wheels do fit that model), when as I understand it the brakes for the "R" were enlarged to cope with the performance jump, so require a bigger wheel.

I used 18" on my XF Supercharged and Vredestein Snows and they worked great. I drove them in Montreal in Feb where snow was not even plowed on the streets and had no issues at all. If you're unsure that 18" will fit, check your spare in the trunk. They are most likely 18" spare. This means you ca fit 18". Just make sure the wheels you get will clear the brakes. I'm actually selling my 18" Winter set. I have it listed on another post.

Front brakes on the XFR are 15 inch discs whereas the XF Sc used "only" 14 inch discs. It appears all versions of the XF use the same size rear brakes at 12.8 inch discs. Of course, caliper clearance is the issue and the XFR also uses model specific calipers, I believe.

Still, you'd think that there would be some 19 inch wheels that would fit over 15 inch calipers, that's 2 inches to play with. Even an 18 inch wheel gives you a full inch clearance from the disc edge.

Guys, thanks for the insights! I have the stock XFR rims and I dont really want to switch the tires back and forth so I am thinking of getting the Kasuga rims, the one that are coming on the XKR 175 ....with pirelli sottos as my winter set...I am still procrastinating though since we havent received snow yet...

I tried getting the Pirellis from Tirerack last month, and after the sale rep had turned me on to them, he then turned around and told me he made a mistake and were out of stock. I was forced to buy Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60's which I had on my 550i. I have them mounted on 20" X 8.5 in rims all around. Hence, I'm an inch narrower in the back which is better for winter. You can't tell the difference unless you're looking at the rear of the car.

The Blizzak's have been good so far provided that the temperature is under 50 degrees. The colder, the better these tires are. Above 50 degrees . . .it's squishy city.
