Heated / cooled seats- a different question
2009 XF SV8, it has the seat heating and cooling via peltier cells and perforated leather etc....
We have just emerged from a cold (by our standards) winter and as I have started to use the seat cooling I find that it is not getting cool. Exacerbated by my aircon not working but that is a separate problem.
About a year ago I pulled the back off the upright part of the seat and repaired all the ducting in that section, the process is pretty well documented on this forum as the plastic ducting is prone to hardening and fracturing. I have not previously paid any attention to the ducting etc in the base of the seat though.
I unbolted the driver's seat this evening and did a little investigating and everything is intact and seems to be working as it should; the fan runs at a higher speed when cooling than when heating, the peltier cell seems to be working as it should as it blows warm air out of the waste vent and cool air into the seat base when on cold and the opposite when on heat. The ducting appears to be in good condition. So everything accessible under the seat seems to be doing what it should, but it does not seem to offer any real backside cooling. Also when on the heat setting, the heating to the backrest is much more noticeable than the base section.
I am wondering if there is any ducting concealed within the foam of the seat cushion itself that might have failed with wear? I'm loathe to pull the leather off the seat to investigate without knowledge of whether this is a wild goose chase.

Hmm that is interesting, I wonder if the spacer has some air distribution ducts or similar. I suspect I will probably end up dismantling the seat cushion to investigate. Might be opening a can of worms though.
Let us know how you get on. I felt like mine weren't working as well this summer. Will see when weather turns cold. But I may need to investigate. I haven't done the ducting yet so am guessing that's my first job. It's 11 yrs old now..
We had a bit of storm damage late last week so have not had a chance to progress this job yet, will report back with findings when I can get to it. The duct repair on the seat upright was quite simple.
