Bought a 2015 xf 3.0 5 months or so ago and I’m doing my first oil change. Got the oil pumped and went to change filter but something isn’t right. The filter I bought says it’s right and it looks like the ones in the videos. Only problem is it doesn’t fit. What am I doing wrong. Is it the wrong filter. Thanks guys. I attached pics of both filters. The inside of filter housing and the inside of housing cap.
I guess whoever did the oil change last overtightened the cap and twisted the ends off the filter. The car may have even sat awhile before I bought it. Oil looked pretty clean after 6k of driving.
This might help others. I drained the oil with a pump from the top and pulled out around 1.75 gallons 7 qts.I put in exactly 7 qts as I figured there might be some residual. This is an AWD model. Also the first time I was ever able to get the level ok to work on the dash 😀

Yep, the busted off ends of the old filter are showing in your pics, it must have been fitted by a gorilla!
The correct torque of 25 Nm is shown on the canister not that I have ever used a torque wrench on it, I have always found that the canister just stops dead when screwing it on then you know it is done up just right.
The correct oil fill for the AJ126 AWD (which you have) is 6.5 litres and 7 US quarts is 6.62 litres so only slightly over-filled and no real problem.
Slight problem there mate, that guide is for the 3.0 diesel whereas the OP has a 3.0 petrol (AJ126).
The two giveaways are he is in the US which never got the diesel and his XF is AWD which also never came with a diesel engine.
That said the oil filter on all of the 3.0 diesel, AJ126 and AJ133 (5.0 V8) is the same, part # C2D3670, it's just that the canister on the 3.0 diesel is different (with a built in 32 mm hex nut on top) while the petrol engine canisters require a filter removal tool/cap, 15 flutes and 89 mm or so internal diameter.

Small correction:
3.0 Diesel have different oil filter than 3.0/5.0 Petrol
You can see the pic of diesel filter here: eBay link for 3.0l Diesel oil filter

Yep, my bad, different oil filter for the diesel, dunno why I thought it was the same as the petrol!
Funny thing is I had a 3.0 D for a couple of years (2010 XFS) and changed the oil filter two or three times - I remember buying a 32 mm socket for that express purpose - but my memory failed me about the oil filter.
