Default Oil filter

Hullo all

I'm going to change the oil on my 35t, as an annual oil change.
I'd like opinions however as to the need to replace the filter
.
The car has only done 2000 miles since the last oil change. Is a new filter really necessary?

Thanks for any input

Keith

Well, maybe not, but they're cheap enough so why not. 2000 miles is enough to get the oil fairly dirty.
Is the car petrol or diesel ?

It's a 3.5T and the OP is in Canada so it's a petrol, the AJ126 3.0 litre V6 to be precise.
I would say that 2,000 miles is not enough to warrant changing the oil filter and at that rate it could safely be left to every second oil change.
But as you say oil filters are cheap and on the V6 a doddle to replace so for peace of mind why not change it anyway.

Well in the end I installed a new OEM filter, just to be sure.
After, I realized that car has now had 5 filters in 22000km!
Installing the new filter l wondered if it was actually a Ford filter, since the filter cap was marked "FOMOCO".

Thanks for the input

It's not a Ford filter but the same filter is used across a very wide range of Jags both petrol and diesel.
The filter cannister has FoMoCo on it because it was supplied by Ford like many parts on the AJ126 V6 and AJ133 V8, look around the engine bay and you should spot some more.
I have explained this many times on this forum and others, it is because the AJ133 V8 (from 2009) and the AJ126 V6 (from 2012 and derived from the V8) were built (by JLR not Ford) in a special area of the Ford Bridgend (Wales) engine plant under a deal between JLR and Ford. That deal expired in Dec 2020 then JLR moved the production of those two engines (and the Ingenium line of engines) to their new engine plant in Wolverhampton. The current engines still contain many parts supplied by Ford and stamped FoMoCo.
When built at Bridgend it made economic sense to use many Ford parts, think of the savings in shipping costs alone, and now that those two engines are slated for execution it would make no sense to redesign those Ford parts or find another supplier.
The V6 and V8 were on the chopping block by Dec 2020 but they have soldiered on a bit longer than JLR had originally planned, partly because they are damn good engines!

It’s a shame they couldn’t shoehorn the I-6 Ingenium into the final few years of the XE or F-type.

Ford have been using FoMoCo on their parts since at least the 1950s!

I'm sure I read somewhere that the excuse from JLR was the I6 is too long for the engine bay and the engine bay would need to be reengineered before it would fit and that would be way too costly. XE maybe but the F-Type??? It already has a fairly long engine bay so surely a relatively minor tweak would have done the trick.
This was well over a year ago which tells me that JLR had already decided back then that the XE and F-Type (and XF) were for the chop.
