Pancake Bunny advises that he's at the ready if required.

Simply not true. There is still residual oil on the cylinders from the previous run whether or not you change the oil. It makes no difference if the car sits overnight and then you start it or you drain the oil and replace it. The sump is full in either case and what residual oil is in the cylinders and oil pump remains there when you change the oil. Therefore, as you can see, your statement is simply devoid of fact. Also, if you recycle the oil you change out, then you reduce any impact on the environment than if you simply dispose of it. In addition, even synthetic oil breaks down over time and through use. It is less effective at 5,000 miles and/or six months than when new. Same again at 10,000 or one year and so on and so on. If I were only going to keep a car for a short period of time, i.e., until the warranty runs out, then I would be more inclined to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. I; however, keep my cars for extended periods of time and the regime I use serves me well and has for over 40 years.

If you replace the filter you will have low oil pressure in the main bearings until the filter pressurizes. You an actually hear that.

If someone wants to initiate their own research you can have your oil tested by mailing a sample to a testing company. If you are really interested the site below provides some humorous, but good information on oil testing. I am not affiliated with them in any way, there may be others out there.

You can hear a sound that takes less than a second? Boy, you are good.
