Default Interior Noise

My car seems to be very sensitive to exterior temperature. The interior doors/windows/dash will make more or less noise depending on the exterior temperature. Anyone else experience this issue? The dealership continues to "lubricate" the seals but the problem continues to show up depending on the outside temperature.

Only the sunroof seal creaked on my '09. Cleaning and lubricating the hard rubber seal with Aerospace 303 worked for a while. The creaks from that seal sounded like they came fom everywhere in the car.

Mine is definitely creaky sometimes too. Agree with Jagular that it seems to be mostly the sunroof in my case. It also rattled a lot until I had some sort of clips in the headliner replaced (done on warranty). It's frustrating as it makes the car sound cheap...

I had a problem with the car creaking. Doors and sunroof. They lubed the seals a few times but it came back 2 months later. They replaced all the seals a few times and they may have finally fixed it. No noises for about 6 months.

The doors on my '12 creak too and it's actually worse now than ever. Was planning to drop it off to the dealership for a fix.

Might have to try Aerospace 303 first.

Jagular, do have a link to the exact one you have used?

I was at the dealership this morning. They lubricated all the seals with a Product they use called "Sil-Glyde". They gave me a tube to take home in case the noise comes back. It's really irritating that for the amount of money we spend on these cars that they can't address this creaking noise. My M5 never had noise issues!

kiddhan625,

Thanks for the picture. Found it on Amazon for $12. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...%3Asil%20glyde

Will give it a try.

How long does the creaking go away for after applying that?

Hi....Jagular and I had this discussion a while back and this is what I recommended. Meguiar's Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. I used it several months ago and it is still working. Use liberally and let it sit a bit and then gently wipe away the excess. Doesn't seem to harm the paint either. Of course we are talking about the sunroof seal....right ? Yes !

I just bought the Sil Glyde and will try it too - will let you know if it works.

So I just finished applying the lubricant to all the door seals including the trunk. The product looks like Vaseline and you can use your finger or a towel to apply. Let it sit and wipe off access. Pretty easy and straightforward.

I took the car on a 15 mile run through some bumpy roads. Majority of the creaking is gone! Let's see how long it lasts. Of course the sunroof creak is back because it got really hot here later in the day. I plan on applying the lubricant myself to the sunroof seal and see what happens.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Let us know how long it lasts.

I tried a few auto part stores today, but no luck. Might have to order it from amazon.

Back when I had a BMW, they had a BMW product which sounds like the exact same thing, but they touted it as for use to keep any rubber seals from drying out, yada yada yada, so I picked a tube up for use whenever I would do a full detail job on it. Wondering if that was BMW code-speak for keeping the seals from squeaking.

I still have the tube of that stuff. Maybe I'll see if it's still good and try it on my seals next time I give her a bath. My '12 is making some noise with the hotter weather and definitely quiets down when it's cooler out.

Update: So on my drive to work no-creaking at all! Of course the temperature was 77 degrees vs. the 90's the last few days. Hopefully it's status quo when the temps jump back in the 90's.

That's what I've seen as well. Was creaking when the car was hot, but stopped by the time I got home after having the A/C running for the trip.

I get a sort of grunting or clunk like creaks, but not squeaky creaks..hard to explain..sounds like it's coming from the rear suspension or body mount somewhere... when gently turning around a corner one way or the other, but it's not real loud...I'll have it checked at the next service visit..

Anyone one else have a similar noise?

Not exactly a creaky clunk, but there's a service bulletin out for the noise the gas in the tank makes when sloshing around. Not sure what the fix would be for it. Worth looking into.

Nope that ain't it..I just filled up the tank and it still makes this little low tone clicking or grunting sort of noises when braking or after you release the brake and then accelerate a lttle or let up on the gas and it makes the noise..sounds to me like body torque creaks or suspension creaks..like the rubber at the tops of the shock or whatever..it don't do it always while just turning..it does it riding over Small bumps at slow speeds that makes the noise too, but if I radically rack the steering from side to side it don't make a sound, only when driving gently and going over small pavement bumps..like I said..the noise is soft and low, so if the radio is on or windows down, you don't hear it as much or at all....But I can tell you it don't sound like gas sloshing, as I fill the tank to the brim.

Update 2: So far so good. No issues with creaking. Had the car washed last week and seems like the lubrication on the seals is still in place.

As far as the roof noise goes, the car was in for service and the they determined that some woring in the headliner had come undone which was causing the "knocking" sound. They re-secured the wiring and re-secured the roofliner with the updated clips. Let's see how long it holds up!
