Default Jaguar XF 2014 3.0 supercharge coolant problem

Hello everyone,

I’m the owner of a 2014 Jaguar XF, 3.0 supercharge and I’ve run into an issue that I can’t seem to solve on my own, so I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar and can share how you resolved it.

After purchasing the car, I carried out a major service which included replacing the entire timing chain kit, water pump, and all related components. The car ran fine for about six months until one day, while idling, the engine suddenly overheated. Initially, I suspected the thermostat and replaced it, but that didn’t fix the problem.

Since then, over a longer period of time, I’ve replaced just about everything in the cooling system:
  • all plastic coolant pipes
  • electric auxiliary water pump
  • radiator
  • cooling fan
In the past year, the car has been to two different workshops, the latest being an official Jaguar dealership. They checked all engine operating parameters, but no fault was detected. The coolant has been tested multiple times for exhaust gases, none were found. The expansion tank cap has been replaced (and the old one pressure-tested), both are fine. Cylinders were inspected with an endoscope – no coolant present, no visible leaks.

At this point, the only step left seems to be removing the cylinder heads, but before going down that road, I’d like to make sure there isn’t another possible cause that I might be overlooking.

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Coolant has always been filled/bleeded using a vacuum filling tool, so there should be no air pockets in the system.

What happens now is that coolant temperature rises up to around 104°C, and then coolant starts to push out through the expansion tank.

At this point, the only step left seems to be removing the cylinder heads, but before going down that road, I’d like to make sure there isn’t another possible cause that I might be overlooking.

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You replaced the fan but is it running? When the car got hot it should have put the fan on high speed.

You may have a blockage, I would flush a few times with distilled water, with the heater on, one question did you replace the plastic parts with Metal pipes

The cooling fan has been replaced. The Jaguar dealership checked its operation, it should be fine and working at full power.
I'll check again myself to see if it starts working at full power.
But let's say there's a new fan but it doesn't start working at full power, what else could it be? Changing the old and new gave the same result, and nothing changed.

Since you said you changed all the parts ,and it ran good for a while, when you did the upgrade something could have fell into the cooling system and there could be a blockage, I would back flush the radiator, and run a hose into the expansion tank, with thermostat off, I no it sounds crazy but I to do that to members F-type, because some of the black plastic under the supercharger fell in ,I had to do four times and it was free
