Can you charge the smart key in the docking station on a 2010 jaguar XF 3ltr diesel

No, the docking station isn't used for that, it's just a way for the car to "read" the smart key when the smart key battery is dead or near dead.
You need to put a new battery in the smart key (CR2032), really easy to do, the instructions are in the Owner's Handbook.
