Just saying goodbye.....
Hi all. First of all, a big thank you to all the help and advice I've gotten on this site. Secondly, it's a pity I've had to get a lot of help and advice on this site!
Maybe I've been unlucky with my 09 3.0d xf, but I have to say that it's been the most problematic car I've ever owned, and at 66, I've owned quite a few! I've encountered too many irritating failures of electric components, sensors, modules etc. And the trouble is, that most mechanics or main dealers want to just keep throwing parts at it until the problem is resolved. I've been living with the interior lights that come and go as they please, the fuel filler flap that opens once in a blue moon, the glove box that opens even less frequently. I've had to replace the rotary gear selector due to a (common) failure. Both the drivers and passenger windows have failed due to the wire mechanism inside the door corroding and breaking. I've had a front wheel bearing collapse, without warning. Luckily this happened on a minor road at low speed. And for a good while now I've been trying to chase down a restricted performance issue. There are numerous other minor issues I could mention, but either way, I have to say that I'm disappointed with the general build quality. I guess that I've just fallen out of love with the car.
Best of luck to you all and hopefully you'll all have better luck than I've had.

Hi and thanks for the response. I'm aware of the "fix" for this particular "known issue" likewise the fuel filler flap, temperamental glove box and several others. But that's kind of my point. I believe that owning a car and especially a Jaguar, shouldn't entail constantly chasing down known issues that Jaguar didn't get right in the first place.
And that's just the tip of my particular iceberg. No one can tell me for sure what's causing my "restricted performance" issue. I could throw a lot of time and money at it and hope I get lucky. Plus its my daily driver and needs to be reliable. And that doesn't address the regular squeaks and rattles that I get from behind the dash.
Thanks for the input but I prefer to spend my time in my car rather than under it.
It might be interesting to study the assortment of posts on here from people trying to sort out "known issues" Just because they're known doesn't make them acceptable.

I Would say go look at any other car forum on any make and model and you will find they all have known issues posted, because forums like this are here for all to share issue they have or have seen. Also some cars do have more issues than others, but they all have them. It also sounds like the mechanic shop who worked on your car may not be the top of the shelf, if they want to just throw parts at a car to see what works. Also were you the original owner? This was also a 2009, so it was the first year for that model, and many first years models will show more issues, because the manufacture is still learning from the real world experience of what may fail over time. Another question, how many miles on your car, and if you were not the original owner you may not know if it was properly maintained. Lastly the car is 14 years old, so take that into account too. I own a 2014 XF for 5 years and it has been not had any issue. I am taking it in to have all the hoses, pipes, belts, and some other work done, because it is going on 10 years old. Well I hope you have good luck on your next purchase.
Hi and thanks for the input. I'm happy that you're enjoying your time with your Jaguar and long may it continue. I'm just saying what my experience has been. I take on board what you're saying, but for me it's just time to move on.

Hope I'm not too late to wish you well and let me say that I'm very sad for you having had so many problems. Not meaning in anyway to boast but I've had my 2008 XF since new in August of 2008 and touch wood I've had and continue to have an amazing run with absolutely no failure issues and incredible reliabity. What may have contributed to this perhaps are a couple of things as I'm no technical persn. My XF has always been parked undercover so that means its always been dry. The Australian climate here even in Melbourne is relatively dry as well but of course summer conditions mean its hot. Secondly I do only use my XF for long distance touring so even a day trip can be 800km+ (500 miles) and I regularly do long weekend drives that can be 2,000 kms and more so the car gets a good work out with nice continuous running.
I think too maintenance is also the key and after reviewing the servicing undertaken by the JLR dealer I decided 4 years ago to switch to an independent (but accredited) Jaguar specialist with around 40 years experience. The car gets treated as if it was his own and given its age of almost 15 years the maintenance regime is a combination of regularly scheduled maintenance combined with targeting areas that the maintainer through experience need more close monitoring or attention. Even so my maintenance costs are considerably lower than the JLR dealer but the attention to detail excellent.
I'm hoping given that regime that my XF will keep running as superbly as ever. Recently I undertook an over 8,000 km round trip through really remote parts of the country and I had no hesitation in terms of reliability etc.
